Still, for as many original foods and drinks as they have introduced, they have also adapted many iconic real-world foods and drinks.
This is why Luke Skywalker’s favorite drink was revealed to be hot chocolate in Timothy Zahn’sHeir to the Empire, the novel that is credited with kicking off theStar WarsExpanded Universe. This became something of a running joke over time, leading Luke to enjoy this drink several times over the course of his expandedStar Warsstory. Though this may no longer be canon, there has been a canon replacement introduced for Luke, though it’s since been renamed.

TheStar Wars: Galactic Starcruiser, Disney’s immersiveStar Warsresort that operated from March 2022 to September 2023, actually introduced hot chocolate intoStar Warscanon. As a wholly immersive experience,essentially everything that existed there also exists in canon - including hot chocolate, which was notably served during a dessert party event named “Sweets and Treats.” This delicacy, however, was not known to passengers as “hot chocolate,” but rather as “Chandrilan Cocoa.”

Essentially,the reason why hot chocolate was renamed Chandrilan Cocoa had everything to do with themingon theGalactic Starcruiser. The titular starcruiser, named theHalcyon, operates under Chandrila Star Line, hence the fact that this cocoa-based drink originates from the planet Chandrila. This not only makes the drink feel even more like a part of the immersive experience, but it also distances the delicacy from the real-world term by which it’s known.
Star Wars Already Has The Perfect Setting For A New Republic Era Adventure
Star Wars is often looking for brand-new settings to bring their adventures, and lucky enough, they have one multimillion-dollar set ready to be used.
This means that Luke can indeed continue to enjoy his favorite drink in canon, even more so because his sister and brother-in-law actually cruised aboard theHalcyonfor their honeymoon. Hilariously,this gives Luke an in-universe reason to have tried hot chocolate, if it came as a recommendationfrom his family and friends. It would be wonderful to seeLuke Skywalkerenjoy a nice cup of Chandrilan Cocoa inStar Wars, if only to act as a callback to his first Legends story.
