Warning: SPOILERS ahead for Severance season 2, episode 9!Severancestar Sarah Bock has explained why Milchick is really ending Miss Huang’s fellowship early in season 2, episode 9, and what it means for her moving forward. DuringSeveranceseason 2, episode 9, Milchick (Tramell Tillman) told Huang (Bock) that she’d successfully finished her Wintertide Fellowship as the severed floor’s deputy manager. She is given a bust of Jame Eagan’s head and told she’ll be going to the Gunnel Eagan Empathy Center for her next role. She’s forced to smash her Kier ring-catching game before boading a bus later in the episode.
Speaking withVanity Fair, Bock explained the multifaceted reasons Milchick may have had for ending her fellowship early inSeveranceseason 2, episode 9. The actor explained how the severed floor manager is starting to see her as a threat to his position, or, alternatively, is trying to protect her from the company’s oppression. She also emphasized howHuang is “a scared and helpless kid,“surprised by her separation from her family and the new chapter she’s about to embark upon. Check out what Bock had to say below:

You could view it as him getting rid of her out of animus. Maybe he fears she will endanger his position. On the other hand, we also discussed the possibility of him having her leave early out of care and protection. He’s seen the oppressive ways in which the company has been treating him, and maybe he is sending her away to spare her of some of that pain.
She is being sent away from her home and her family with pretty much zero warning. I think that breaks down the walls she’s put up, and in that moment, she is just a scared and helpless kid who doesn’t know what is coming.

What Huang Leaving Means For Severance Moving Forward
She’ll Be Safe From Any Fallout In The Final Episode
Huang is part ofLumon’s Wintertide Fellowship, the same program Harmony (Patricia Arquette) was revealed to have been part of when she was a child. The program appears to be training young people to join the company’s cult-like higher management, being the first step in indoctrinating younger people. Now that she’s completed her training, she’s departing to an Empathy Center in Svalbard, which, in real life, is an archipelago north of Europe. This means extreme isolation from the rest of the world as her next role in Lumon takes shape.
Harmony Cobel’s Wintertide Mention In Severance Season 2 Confirms A Dark Truth About Miss Huang
Severance season 2’s ep. 8 confirms how Harmony Cobel ties into Lumon’s Wintertide Fellowship, which also reveals the dark truth about Miss Huang.
The end of her fellowship comes as the severed floor slowly starts to fall apart. Not only has Irving (John Turturro) escaped Kier on a train, but Dylan (Zach Cherry) also resigned, leaving two of the original four innies effectively dead. Mark (Adam Scott) is now undergoing reintegration, withSeveranceseason 2, episode 9’s endinghinting that his innie will be the key to stopping Cold Harbor.Huang’s departure is one small part of this, scary for her because it’s unclear what her next steps are, but also keeping her safe from anything untoward the season finale may bring.

Will Her Story Continue?

There’s no indication whether Huang is going to come back in theSeveranceseason 2 finale, but it seems unlikely her story will continue in the final episode. However, it’s unclear what this means for her return in a possible season 3, since there’s still plenty of waysher character can offer new insight into what Lumon’s global operations are like. With only one episode left, however, her boarding a bus might be the last time she’s seen unless the show gets a confirmed renewal.
Severanceseason 2, episode 10, “Cold Harbor,” arrives on Friday, March 21 on Apple TV+.
