Summary

Valheim’s final update will come from the Deep North biome, but there is currently limited information on it.Valheimwas released in February 2021 and was a major hit, seeing profit and player numbers surpassing most indie games. The Ashlands was a huge updatethat showed how far the game has grown and was well-received with its numerous additions. However, the game is planned to be released in 1.0 with the Deep North, which will likely be the last major update for the survival title.

Currently, the Deep North is an empty biome in the northern part of the map. It is similar to the Mountain biome with freezing temperatures and frequent snowstorms that Vikings need proper gear to survive. The only system that is already in the Deep North is the ability to use the pickaxe to break glaciers or ice sheets apart. This kind of destructive environmental feature could be extremely fun and useful in numerous ways.

What Is Currently Known About Valheim’s Deep North Biome

A Hollow Shell Of Ice

Unfortunately, as of now, there is scarce information about the Deep North biome. What is known is that it will be the last major update, as mentioned earlier, but there is a chance some minor content drops will be pushed after release. Iron Gate Studio has also saidit wants to try to do a small revamp to the Ocean biomes, and if that does happen, it will come with the Deep North update. There is also the possibility that mod support, more than is already available, will launch along with the 1.0 release.

A rough estimate forthe release date lies around late 2025 or early 2026. This is based on the past gaps between large updates, and that recent updates have taken longer to deliver a better product. The big question that has arisen from this estimated date is whether it is too far away. Understandably, a smaller team needs more time, but it could hurt some areas by releasing so late.

What Can Be Predicted About Valheim’s Deep North Biome

A Blank White Sheet Of Potential

Luckily, based on the Ashlands update, there are hordes of predictions that can be made about the Deep North. Since it is likely to be the opposite of the Ashlands, the cold could be even stronger than in the Mountains. However, thisintense temperature mechanic held back the Ashlandsa bit, so finding the right balance will be crucial. Regardless of how the mechanic releases, it will likely be countered by armor that provides stronger protection than anything currently inValheim. Weather effects could also make it harder to navigate or perhaps force players to take shelter.

The most obvious enemy that could appear is frost giants. They could either be another version of the preexisting troll, or completely original. Regardless, they would likely be tanky melee-focused creatures with perhaps some slight ranged attacks to bring more challenge. Another option, albeit much more simple, could be bears. These creatures could bring more speed to the Deep Northand would be threatening in situations where player speed is reduced.

With new challenges, Vikings must be compensated with strong new gear. The Ashlands made major additions to the magic ofValheim, so perhaps the Deep North could expand this. This should be with more options rather than a focus on just Ice magic. It is also likely that a new ore tier and gear made from it will be added, since this has happened with every previous biome. If the Ashlands is any sign, the process to get this ore will have a few steps to add a layer of difficulty.

Though it is unfortunate so little is known about the Deep North, the bright side is how much potential the landscape has. Especially since the Ashlands was such a significant update when compared to what the previous biomes had to offer, which can feel lacking at times. Hopefully, more will be teased to the player base as development continues on one of thehardest open-world games. Until then, this is all that is currently known aboutValheim’s Deep North update.

Valheim

In Valheim, players assume the role of a recently slain warrior, recently sent to the tenth world. Now with the ultimate goal of making their way to Valhalla for glory, players must explore a procedurally generated open world, build bases, craft weapons and armor, and slay intimidating beasts to earn their eternal glory. As an open-world action game, players must survive the harsh elements alone or with other fallen warriors as they prepare to face insurmountable foes in third-person action combat.
