Afterwinning a Golden Globefor his performance inThe Penguin, Colin Farrell has earned a distinction only a few DC villain actors have before. Namely,both Heath Ledger and Joaquin Phoenix won Golden Globes for their performances as the JokerinThe Dark KnightandJoker, respectively. In a press conference, Farrell addressed joining this club of talented actors, quipping:“Two-one to the Joker. Two-one to the Joker takes it.”
The actor continued by praising Ledger and Phoenix. He explained: “I mean you mentioned two actors who are, I think, for my money, two of the most extraordinary, talented, gifted, and just brilliant artists in film that I’ve ever had the fortune to observe and be affected by, you know.“Farrell stated that “what Heath did in Chris Nolan’s Dark Knight was extraordinary and will live on for future generations.” He also complimented Phoenix’s “extraordinary” work onJoker, which was “exemplified by all the awards that he won,” including an Oscar.
Farrell was humbled by the comparison, saying “to have your name thrown into it, just uttered in the same sentence as those performances and stuff, honestly, it’s lovely.” However, he denied taking a place among their ranks: “I don’t feel like I’m part of that pantheon. I won’t be going home tonight going, ‘I’m part of that pantheon.'“Rather,Farrell “[approached] it all more from just a fan” perspective,especially when it came to Ledger and Phoenix, who he described as “just two extraordinarily honest, brilliant guys.”
