COMICS
SPORTS
I did not get this category straight away but when I did get around to it, it felt surprisingly instinctive. While most of my interaction with newspapers is not physical anymore, I am still familiar enough with the sections where this makes sense. However, I was thinking more along the lines of these being potential clubs in a school thansections in a newspaper, but it got me to the right answer so I’m not mad about it.
RINGS
ROOTS
This category is the one I noticed first, but perhaps that is my personal obsession with trees that led me there. I was not 100% sure if CROWN was the right terminology, but luckily it was and RINGS, ROOTS, and BARK were easy to spot and place together.
Afterward, some of the charts I looked at did not even have CROWN listed on them, so it feels like it is not as common of aword used to describe different parts of treesas much as it should be. After all, trees deserve to have crowns.

The Tiles game for the New York Times mobile app asks you to use various strategies to pair matching visual patterns together to build huge combos.
GREEK
WEDGE
This category I guessed second, still apparently stymied by the mysteries of the newspaper, but completely in tune with thevarious types of salad. Which is odd, given that I do not each much salad. Interestingly, when I was in Greece, I learned that a real Greek salad is fairly different from the version I see in most restaurants across the U.S., which might be why GREEK caught my eye as a type of salad to begin with.
SHIELD
TORCH
I knew what MONTICELLO was, but I was quite confused about what it had to do with anything else in the puzzle. Proper nouns tend to be a little harder, but luckily having finally gotten around to the newspaper I was able to just guess the last four words together.
This is always a relief and extremely satisfying to do. Now that I see the category, it makes a lot more sense how these things are connected and I learned that for some reason MONTICELLO is on theback of a coin.
