Warning: SPOILERS ahead for The White Lotus season 3, episode 1, “Same Spirits, New Forms.“The White Lotusseason 3 is bringing viewers to Thailand, and while the latest outing is already off to a strong start, the only character to appear in all three seasons is a bit ridiculous. The White Lotusseason 3continues the trend of following a new cast of characters to a new setting. However, like season 2, it maintains connections to the previous outings. It accomplishes this by featuring a few familiar faces in thecast ofThe White Lotusseason 3.

Sadly, due toThe White Lotusseason 2’s ending, Jennifer Coolidge’s Tanya isn’t among them. And her involvement in the latest outing would have been interesting givenBelinda’s return toThe White Lotusafter a season away. But while Belinda won’t be running into Tanya at the titular resort, she may see another character from season 1.Greg Hunt is back inThe White Lotusseason 3, making him the recurring figure to appear most in the show — a strange realization given how unlikable he is.

Greg Is Currently The Only White Lotus Character To Be In All 3 Seasons

The Other Recurring Characters Have Only Been In 2 Seasons Each

While Tanya and Belinda are both in two seasons ofThe White Lotusapiece,Greg is officially the only character to appear in all three outings of the HBO show. Jon Gries' Greg is introduced as a love interest for Tanya in season 1, and season 2 takes their relationship to disturbing and deadly places. Despite being the one to orchestrate Tanya’s demise — a plot that winds up getting far more attention than he’d hoped — Greg manages to show up inThe White Lotusseason 3’s premiere.

5 Best Fan Theories After The White Lotus Season 3, Episode 1

The White Lotus season 3 raises many questions during its premiere, and the best theories about episode 1 would make truly great twists.

Greg appears at the White Lotus in Thailand with a woman named Chloe, who becomes fast friends with Chelsea at the bar. The conversation that unfolds between Chloe and Chelsea indicates that the former doesn’t have a great relationship with Greg. And he doesn’t seem to be enjoying himself as he sits in the background. However, Chloe indicates that she and Greg have been living together and dining at the White Lotus for about a year. It’s wild that Greg hasn’t been arrested in this time span, and it’s looking like we’ll have to deal with his antics for another season.

Greg Is One Of The White Lotus' Worst Characters

He Doesn’t Have Redeeming Qualities & He’s Uninteresting

Greg’s return inThe White Lotusseason 3 is disappointing because it means that Tanya didn’t get justice. However, it’s also ridiculous that he’s in another outing of the show because he’s one of the series' worst characters. While very few of the characters inThe White Lotusare admirable or decent people, plenty of them have redeeming qualities. And even those who don’t are usually entertaining, like Jake Lacy’s Shane or Theo James' Cameron.Greg is both a terrible person and pretty dull, making him a strange choice to keep around.

At this point, the HBO series could probably do without Greg altogether.

Jon Gries as Greg in White Lotus season 3

Judging by Chloe’s description of Greg, he doesn’t seem to be any more likable afterThe White Lotusseason 2. And it’s unlikely season 3 will attempt to sell viewers on him, as he seems to be taking on a background role once again. At this point, the HBO series could probably do without Greg altogether. But since the show is committed to bringing him back, I’m hoping it will finally accomplish what season 2 didn’t have time to.Greg’s return only works if he finally gets his just deserts, so hopefully,The White Lotusseason 3 can make that happen.

The White Lotus Season 3 Has To Finally Kill Off Greg, Right?

That Has To Be The HBO Show’s Reason For Bringing Him Back

It’s ridiculous that Greg is in every season ofThe White Lotusso far, butseason 3 seems likely to kill him off — and it sort of needs toat this point. Although there’s something to be said for wealthy, cruel men getting away with things as one of the show’s messages,The White Lotuscould have left Greg alone after season 2 if that’s what it was going for. There’s no reason to bring him back just to send this message; there needs to be a larger point. Giving Greg his comeuppance seems like the most obvious one.

Greg’s relationship with Chloe certainly seems odd, so it could be the catalyst for his death inThe White Lotusseason 3.

And Greg’s relationship with Chloe certainly seems odd, so it could be the catalyst for his death inThe White Lotusseason 3. Perhaps Chloe already knows who Greg is and has her own sinister intentions. But she doesn’t make it seem like she views him as anything but one of the “losers back home” in the premiere. Alternatively, Greg could endanger Chloe, just like he did to Tanya, prompting her or even Chelsea to go on the defense.

New episodes ofThe White Lotusseason 3 air on HBO on Sundays at 9 p.m. ET, and they drop on Max at the same time.

It’s also possible that Greg will get his comeuppance without actually dying inThe White Lotusseason 3, though that might be less satisfying after three seasons of build-up. Belinda being at the resort at the same time as him means he’s at risk of being recognized. Depending on how things play out, Greg could find himself arrested for his crimes inThe White Lotusseason 3 — an outcome that would also prevent him from appearing in future outings (hopefully).
