Despite its divisive reception,Starfieldis certainly one of the biggest current Xbox exclusives, but it might not be one for much longer. Ever since the first rumors about Xbox porting exclusives started to swirl ahead,Starfieldhas been one of the most-discussed possibilities. It’s been a year since the first batch of Xbox games started to make their way to PS5, withPentiment’s port kicking things off in February last year, butStarfieldcoming to PS5 has remained in the realm of rumors and speculation.

Bethesda’s had its hands busy withStarfield’s Xbox release, so it’s not exactly surprising that going multi-platform didn’t happen instantly. TheShattered SpaceDLC didn’t radically alter many opinions on the game, but free post-launch updates have made some key improvements, and a trademark filing set expectations that anotherDLC calledStarbornis on its way. Whileit would make sense forStarbornto release before any possible PS5 port, the most recent news implies that the schedule could look a little more aggressive.

Starfield’s PlayStation Logo Seems Like A Big Tell

One Mod Creation Could Be The Key

As shared byDollar99Manon Reddit and reported byVGC,a PlayStation logo recently appeared in the platform compatibility section for aStarfieldmodavailable through the official Creations platform. While this is an isolated incident so far, it also doesn’t seem like an error that would have likely happened without any connection to plans for a PS5 port. If Creation compatibility is already being tested across platforms — or even if the logo was simply added toStarfield’s Creations platform and appeared errantly — the port might be relatively close at hand.

Starfield On PS5 Will Have An Edge Over Xbox Series X In At Least One Way

The PlayStation 5 has a distinct advantage over the Xbox Series X/S, which could make Bethesda’s Starfield a far more immersive experience.

While this doesn’t mirror the primary pattern of tells for the first wave of multi-platform releases, which were largely spread as increasingly well-collaborated rumors before official teases and announcements,it seems like an even more promising indicator than another insider report would be. Microsoft sharing one of its most long-anticipated exclusives might have seemed unthinkable a few years ago, but the company’s approach has undergone undeniably major shifts.

Starfield PS5 Rumors Have Been Swirling For A Year

One Of Xbox’s First Multi-Platform Rumors

When Xbox first announced a slate of multi-platform releases in February 2024 — leaving them unnamed at the time — Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer confirmed thatStarfieldwouldn’t be one of them. His statement focused more on timing than anything, though, leaving the door open for that to change in the future. In the same broadcast, he shot down anIndiana Jones and the Great CirclePS5 release, which ended up beingannounced several months later at Gamescom.

When To Expect Indiana Jones & The Great Circle On PS5, Based On Everything We Know So Far

Indiana Jones & the Great Circle is coming to PS5 this spring, but doesn’t have a date yet; here’s everything we know about when it could release.

Before Spencer’s official statement,an insider who correctly suggested thatHi-Fi Rushwould be ported to PS5 also implied thatStarfieldwould go multi-platformin posts onNeoGAF. A year later,Spencer revisited the topicwhen asked whether he could confirm thatStarfieldwould stay exclusive, responding “no” before explaining that he didn’t want to “put a ring fence around any game.” Neither Spencer nor any other representatives from Microsoft and Bethesda have confirmed aStarfieldrelease yet, but choosing not to deny one certainly didn’t quash speculation.

When Starfield Might Come To PlayStation 5

It Could Only Be A Matter Of Months

Microsoft hasn’t been consistent about when and how it reveals multi-platform releases, withForza Horizon 5’s PS5 port coming in the form of a surprise announcement online. If aStarfieldPS5 announcement sticks to a bigger event, however, the most obvious venue would be the summer Xbox Games Showcase, which falls in early-mid June and usually includes some major Bethesda reveals. Post-launch multi-platform announcements from Xbox have all been followed by the game releases within a couple of months, soStarfieldmight then come to PS5 later in the summer or early autumn.

The turnaround fromIndiana Jones and the Great Circle’s multi-platform announcement to itsupcoming PS5 releasehas been much longer, but the pre-launch announcement puts it in a different category from other releases.

It could always come earlier or later than that, but Xbox already has enough to worry about in April and May.Forza Horizon 5’s PS5 release should be joined byIndiana Jones and the Great Circle’s, and Microsoft is publishingSouth of MidnightandDoom: The Dark Agesin the same timeframe. Even if it ends up falling later in 2025, a PS5 release ofStarfieldcould be a big boost to the game’s popularity, especially if it’s accompanied by more fixes and improvements.
