What The Monkey Trailer Means For The Movie
The New Footage Reveals A Comedic Edge
After the first teasertrailer forThe Monkeycontained little footage from the actual film, the new trailer features much more footage of the titular cursed monkey and the characters. Also, being a redband trailer, it features many gruesome and darkly comic deaths. The comedic element of the movie is definitely a revelation from the trailerand a deviation from many otherStephen King moviesand especially Osgood Perkins' last film,Longlegs. He’s also directed the horror filmsI Am the Pretty Thing That Lives in the HouseandGretel & Hansel.
Every Upcoming Stephen King Movie & TV Show Adaptation
There are many more upcoming Stephen King movie adaptations that are currently in development, some of which are expected for a 2024 or 2025 release.
The redband trailer teases many of the gruesome and darkly comic deaths that audiences can expect fromThe Monkey. This includes a woman being electrocuted in a swimming pool, an accident at a Hibachi bar, a baby stroller on fire, and a women’s head set ablaze. Again, while many of these deaths are gruesome and deeply unsettling, there’s something inherently absurd about a cursed toy monkey with cymbals being the source of terror, so it seems appropriate for the movie adaptation to adopt a comedic edge.

Our Take On The Monkey Trailer
It’s Surprisingly Funny For A Stephen King Movie
Stephen King often plays with the concept of mundane objects becoming malevolent forces, and the idea of something as innocuous as a mechanic monkey becoming a killing machine adds an element of absurdity. The movie doesn’t appear to be a laugh-at-loud comedy by any means, but it might elicit a dry chuckle of recognition from fans of King’s style. The humor inThe Monkeytrailer comes from the dissonance between the ordinary and the horrific, a hallmark of King’s work, creating a kind of dark comedy.
