Kieran Culkin has revealed that he didn’t know his brother, Macaulay Culkin, was the star ofHome Aloneuntil the premiere, despite having a role in the movie himself. The younger Culkin brother portrayed Fuller in thecast ofHome Alone, while his older brother played the lead character, Kevin. While his role in the film isn’t as large as his older brother’s, it was his first time onscreen, leading to the blossoming career he’s been able to carry ever since.
Speaking with theLos Angeles Timesabout his new movieA Real Painalongside co-star Jesse Eisenberg,Culkin admitted he had no idea whatHome Alonewas about when he first saw the movie. He also said that Devin Ratray convinced him that Buzz, Ratray’s character, was the protagonist of the movie. He didn’t find out Macaulay was the real main character until watching the premiere, after which it started to make sense to him. Check out what Culkin had to say below:

I had no idea what that movie was about when I saw it, and I was in it. I was at the premiere, and I was dying laughing. It was the funniest thing I had ever seen. I had no idea what the movie was about.
‘Drink this Coke, wear the glasses, say the thing that you memorized, look cute and go home.’ Devin Ratray, the guy who plays Buzz, lied to me and told me the movie was all about him. And I believed him. And then when I saw it, the movie’s cracking me up, and I go, ‘Mac was on set all the time. That makes sense the movie would be about him.’

What Culkin’s Home Alone Story Says About His Time Filming The Movie
He Was Too Young To Know What The Film Was About
Home Alonewas filmed between February and May 1990, with the first screening for the cast likely happening not long after. This puts the actor as seven years old at the time of filming, while he was potentially eight the first time he saw the movie in full. Because of his age,it makes sense that he wouldn’t question Ratray, and would have no idea what the movie he’d just filmed was about. Luckily, since it’s still considered the best of theHome Alonemovies, he can watch it in the present day and fully understand what he was filming.

Kevin McCallister may just be trying to protect himself in Home Alone and Home Alone 2: Lost in New York, but a lot of his traps would be deadly.
Since then,Culkin’s movies and TV showshave included plenty of critically-praised roles, such as Wallace Wells inScott Pilgrim vs. the Worldand Roman Roy inSuccession. Yethis role inHome Aloneis still memorable, especially because it was his first time onscreen. The actors' story about being tricked into thinking Buzz was the main character is humorous, and shows just how young he was at the time of filming. It also makes for a generally funny introduction for his career, given how knowledgeable about acting roles he’s become in the decades since.

Our Take On Kieran Culkin’s Funny Home Alone Story
It’s Hilarious He Didn’t Even Know The Movie’s Plot
Given how young Culkin was when he filmedHome Alone, coupled with a much smaller role than his brother, it makes sense he wouldn’t fully understand the scope of the movie at such a young age. But what makes this even funnier to us is that he still didn’t fully know what the movie was about while watching it at the premiere. However, he did recognize his brother was the main character and Ratray had been messing with him, making it clear he understood some aspects of it, even if not everything clicked.
Much like his older brother, Kieran Culkin returned to his role in 1992’sHome Alone 2: Lost in New York.
