Angel Studios releasedThe Chosenin 2017, and it has been a hit ever since, meaning that multiple spinoffs and shows are in the works. Typically, when a series is a success, one spinoff is ordered. If its achievements continue, then the universe of said series can keep on expanding. However, forThe Chosen, five spinoffs were announced at once, meaning that fans of the Christian historical drama have a lot to look forward to in the coming years. Plus, followingthe release ofThe Chosenseason 4, the original show still has a handful of seasons to go before it ends.

Dallas Jenkins, the creator, director, and co-writer ofThe Chosen, is launching a new production studio called 5&2 Studios, which is the umbrella under which he will develop the upcoming spinoffs.Every project will be produced by Jenkins' 5&2 Studiosas the company focuses on developing “Bible-inspired stories through uniquely human and authentic storytelling and audience engagement,” perVariety. Angel Studios lost the rights toThe Chosenin mid-2024. So, going forward, the Christian historical TV show’s new seasons and all of its future spinoffs will be produced by 5&2 Studios, not Angel Studios.

The bad news is thatThe Chosenseason 5 is not expected to premiere until the spring of 2025. Unfortunately, the exact month or day is unknown as of the writing of this article. As for season 5’s story, the episodes will reportedly cover Holy Week, starting with Palm Sunday.Other events that will likely be included are the Last Supper, Judas betraying Jesus, the Agony in the Garden of Gethsemane, and more. According toCatholic News Agency, when speaking about what to expect inThe Chosenseason 5, Dallas Jenkins said:

“[Season 5 is] sad at times. It’s actually heartbreaking at times because we know we’re getting closer and closer to the cross … We’re going to get to see some iconic moments from Scripture, but we’re also going to, I believe, be drawn closer to who Jesus was because of his suffering.”

So,The Chosenseason 5 is happening. But, there are alsotwo additional seasons in the works, bringing the show’s total to seven. The Chosenseason 6 covers Jesus' Crucifixion and season 7 focuses on Jesus' Resurrection. Seven seasons was always the plan for Jenkins when he created the series, and following the release of season 7, the Christian historical drama will come to an end. However, Jenkins has ensured thatThe Chosenuniverse won’t die, as he has five spinoffs planned.

5The Chosen Adventures

Release Date: 2025

In a surprising turn of events, the first spinoff ofThe Chosenwill be the animated seriesThe Chosen Adventures. The cartoon will be a youthful take on the original show’s story, but will still take place in the same universe. While Jesus is featured in the animated series as he interacts with a group of children he meets in the wilderness, he won’t be the main character. Instead, a nine-year-old named Abby from the Galilean city of Capernaum will be the star, alongside her best friend, Joshua. The Chosen Adventuresreportedly takes place around 30 CE.

Many of the original cast members fromThe Chosenwill return to voice their roles inThe Chosen Adventures, including Jonathan Roumie as Jesus. However, theJesus animated series will also feature newcomers Paul Walter Hauser, Yvonne Orji, and Jordin Sparks. The reported cast is:

Jordin Sparks

TBA

The Chosen Adventuresis set to be the second installment in the franchise, afterThe Chosen, of course. While it doesn’t have an exact release date, it is expected to premiere sometime in 2025 and will contain 14 episodes. PerVariety, the mind behindThe Chosen, Dallas Jenkins, discussed the motivation behind creating an animated show set in the universe. Jenkins said:

“There’s room here to tell the story of Jesus through the eyes of children in the whimsical format of animation. We thought there’s something there, seeing Jesus through the eyes of kids. We’re not going to expand on that in the mothership show. But what if we took time with that, in an animated show that was witty and fun and that adults could appreciate. We really wanted to get this right. We can’t afford for our second project to come out of the gate and people to go, ‘you know, it’s fine.’ But we really want to make sure that the audience really loves it.”

4The Chosen In The Wild With Bear Grylls

Release Date: TBA

Another unexpected spinoff ofThe ChosenisThe Chosen in the Wild with Bear Grylls. As its name suggests, the upcoming series will feature famous British adventurer and survivalist Bear Grylls, known forMan vs. Wildand hiscelebrity-filled survival skills reality showRunning Wild with Bear Grylls. So, whileThe Chosen Adventureswill be the franchise’s first animated show,The Chosen in the Wild with Bear Gryllswill be its first reality series.

Bear Grylls Interview: Running Wild Star On Season 5 & Bonding With Celebrity Guests

Bear Grylls speaks with Screen Rant about Running Wild with Bear Grylls season 5, what audiences can expect, and how he challenges his guests.

The Chosen in the Wild with Bear Gryllswill be hosted by Grylls and featureThe Chosencreator Dallas Jenkins. The six-episode adventure reality show will revolve around Grylls putting Jenkins through many challenges, likely similar to howRunning Wild with Bear Gryllsoperates. It’s unclear which other stars ofThe Chosenwill appear in the six episodes. However, Jenkins is confirmed to take part in front of the camera, as opposed to behind it like he is used to. RegardingThe Chosen in the Wild with Bear Grylls, Jenkins said:

“This is the first of multiple partnerships in the unscripted space. For me as a rugged indoorsman, I’m very scared about what I’m going to be subjected to. But I’m willing to take one for the team. It’s the idea of partnering with other people who have their own audiences, and for us to bring our thing into their world.”

3An Untitled Moses Spinoff

Out of the fiveThe Chosenspinoffs in the works, three of them will be standard, live-action continuations of the original series. The first of which will revolve around Moses, who does not appear in the first Christian historical drama.OnceThe Chosenwraps after season 7, Dallas Jenkins will focus on developing (aka writing, directing, and showrunning) the Moses spinoff. So, the upcoming project likely won’t materialize until 2028 or later, based on how long the breaks between seasons ofThe Chosenare.

Jenkins compares Moses’story toThe Sopranos, claiming that the Hebrew prophet’s tale has more “pop culture, historical moments, and phrases and imagery” than anything else in the Bible.Jenkins already plans on telling Moses' story in three seasons, with eight to ten episodes in every installment. Each season of the untitled Moses spinoff will also revolve around one “era” of Moses' life. As Jenkins explains:

“One is the rescue from Egypt. Two is the parting of the Red Sea, the escape, the Exodus and the progression towards the promised land. And then the third season would be after the 40 years of wandering in the desert, as they’re going to actually capture the promised land, Moses actually doesn’t get a chance to experience that. He hands off leadership.”

BecauseThe Chosenwill ultimately end with seven seasons,Jenkins seemingly wants to develop shows with fewer seasons. That way, it won’t take years for the spinoffs to conclude, and the filmmaker can focus on telling as many stories as possible. Jenkins' mindset makes sense, especially because of how many ideas he has forThe Chosenuniverse.

2Untitled Joseph Spinoff

Similar to the Moses spinoff, Dallas Jenkins wants to produce a TV show revolving around Joseph, who also doesn’t appear inThe Chosen. However, unlike the Moses series, the untitled Joseph spinoff will (as of the writing of this article) only be one season consisting of eight episodes.Jenkins believes that Joseph’s story can be told within the limits of a miniseries.

Jenkins did not offer up much more information about the untitled Joseph spinoff, meaning fans will have to wait to learn more about what’s to come concerning this particular sequel series [ofThe Chosen].

Unfortunately, not much else is known about the untitled Joseph spinoff ofThe Chosen. The only othernarrative details about the upcoming Christian historical drama TV show can be found in the Bible.Outside of that, Jenkins did not offer up much more information about the untitled Joseph spinoff, meaning fans will have to wait to learn more about what’s to come concerning this particular sequel series.

1The Acts Of The Apostles

The final (announced)The Chosenspinoff isThe Acts of the Apostles, serving as a direct continuation of the parent series. The upcoming Christian historical drama TV show will be based on the Book of Acts, which revolves around the actions of Jesus' followers after the Resurrection and details the founding of the Christian Church. As a result,The Acts of the Apostleswill likely feature characters fromThe Chosen.

Although Dallas Jenkins has many plans forThe Chosenfranchise, his projects do not yet have a home. The filmmaker is open to forming a partnership with a streamer to release the spinoffs (meaning they won’t be free likeThe Chosen). However, nothing is confirmed yet.

The Apostles featured in the Book of Acts include Peter, John, James, Andrew, Philip, Thomas, Bartholomew, Matthew, James (son of Alphaeus), Simon (the zealot), and Judas (son of James). Fans of the original Christianhistorical drama TV showshouldrecognize a few names (like Peter, John, Andrew, Philip, and more). So, we should expect to see some of the cast ofThe Chosenreturn inThe Acts of the Apostles, unless the producers recast the characters for the spinoff.
