Summary
AsStarfieldplayers patiently awaitShattered Space,Bethesda wants to reassure the community that there’s still a lot more in the pipeline. Despite its rocky launch,Starfieldhas managed to establish a dedicated player base, one that’s been treated to several significant content updates over the last year. While many of these have been quality-of-life improvements, Bethesda is starting to ramp up the scale of its post-launch support withShattered Space, so users can look forward to even more game-changing patches in the future.
Speaking to ScreenRant at Gamescom 2024, Timothy Lamb, Lead Creative Producer at Bethesda, promised thatStarfieldwill receive more content that isn’t locked behind a paywall likeShattered Space. Lamb noted that he’s “personally excited” about some of the community notes that have been pushed into production, stating that while he can’t specify what’s in development, there are some updates that he can’t wait to discuss in detail. The producer also confirmed that outside of the big content patches, plenty of smaller free quality-of-life improvements are also planned for every player.

Starfield: What Happens When You Become Starborn
The culmination of Starfield’s story has the player character entering the Unity and becoming Starborn, beginning the game again in a new universe.
Shattered Space Could Set An Exciting Precedent
While Bethesda hasn’t delivered too many substantial content updates forStarfield, it has been consistent with its output by delivering a patch at least every six weeks. The most recent update added the much-requested Rev-8 vehicle, a land-based buggy that makes traversing the game’s planets significantly more exciting. Undoubtedly the biggest expansion will beShattered Space, a paid DLC that willfurther explore the mysteries of House Va’ruunand its worship of an ominous deity known as the Great Serpent.
Based on the promotional material,Shattered Spaceis set to deliver a significantly scarier experience than many initially expected. Taking a page out of franchises likeAlienandDead Space, the DLC is embracing the inherent fear of the unknown, expanding upona faction that clearly had sinister machinationsthat were never truly explained in the base game. How much content players can expectto find inShattered Spaceremains to be seen but everything leading up to its launch has been incredibly exciting.

Fortunately,Starfieldfans won’t need to wait too long to experience the terrors ofShattered Space. The DLC is slated to arrive on September 30, just over a year since the game launched in 2023. Fortunately, the Starborns' saga won’t end there as Bethesda has confirmed thatit’s also working on another paid expansionbut very little is known about this project at the time of writing.
