Summary

Star Wars’next show features a planet that very much resembles Earth. Looking to be the home ofSkeleton Crew’sfour main child stars, this world looks more like our own planet than any other world that’s ever been seen before in the galaxy far, far away. While this has drawn some criticism from certain areas of theStar Warsfandom, it seems like the point is being missed.

Releasing online following its debut during D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event, the very first trailer forSkeleton Crewwas released. Starring Ravi Cabot-Conyers as Wim, Ryan Kiera Armstrong as Fern, Kyriana Kratter as KB, and Robert Timothy Smith as Neel, these four kids will accidentally find themselves lost in the far reaches of theStar Warsgalaxy and will eventually be helped by a Force user named Jod Na Naworrd (Jude Law). However,Skeleton Crew’sfirst trailer confirms that their adventure will begin on a planet that looks remarkably familiar (which is entirely the point).

Skeleton Crew’s Planet Is The Most Earthlike World We’ve Ever Seen In Star Wars

It Looks Like The Suburbs

Seen at the very beginning of the trailer,Skeleton Crew’sgroup of young charactersare seen getting on a bus to school, while also preparing for a big test. Homes are featured with green lawns, lampposts, and even paved sidewalks and streets. That said, there are still droids and classic alien species on this world including Ithorians and Neel, who’s a blue Ortolan. Likewise, vehicles and the kids' bikes still hover off the ground.

However, there’s no denying that this newStar Warsplanet is the most like Earth that’s ever been seen before. As such, this is something that has naturally drawn criticism, with some voicing their dislike for the world, questioning why anyone would want to see a planet that bears so much resemblance to the real world. However, the visuals of this planet are no doubt crucial for everything elseSkeleton Crewhas in store.

Critics Are Completely Missing The Point Of Skeleton Crew

It’s Supposed To Be Wish-Fulfilment For Kids

Having been inspired by Amblin Entertainment features such asE.T.orThe Goonies, Jon Watt and Christopher Ford’sSkeleton Crewis all about a group of kids being inadvertently thrust into an adventure they’d only ever dreamed of.As such, the show will serve as prime wish-fulfillment for kids in the real world, imagining if they themselves got to be whisked away at lightspeed into theStar Warsgalaxy itself. Keeping that in mind, it’s important that their homeworld looks to be as familiar to Earth as possible (while still making sense within the greaterStar Warscanon).
