Everything We Know About The Mandalorian & Grogu Movie

The Mandalorian’s story will continue with a Star Wars movie. Here’s everything we know about the project, including cast, release, and timeline.

The Mandalorian Has A Tendency To Reverse Important Character Moments

Nothing In The Mandalorian Seems Permanent

Before exploring what exactly it was inThe Mandalorian and Grogu’s footage that was both frustrating and compelling, it is worth outlining the trend of the show that links to the former reaction. That trend is thatThe Mandaloriantends to reverse important moments, character arcs, and storylines. The Mandalorian’sStar Warsstory reversalshave only grown more common as the show has gone on, with several of them coming in the most recent season 3.

From characters being revived and others being captured before being set loose to changes in Din Djarin’s character arc and lore alterations,The Mandalorianhas become exasperating with how much it reverses. Rather than allowing the big story moments to stay permanent and thus more emotionally impactful,The Mandalorianhas slowly lost sight of compelling developments due to the possibility they are reversed shortly thereafter. Across the three seasons of the show, these reversals have become frustratingly common.

The Mandalorian & Grogu Will Bring Back The Razor Crest

Din Djarin Lost His Home… Only To Regain It

As alluded to, this frustrating reversal trend is continuing inThe Mandalorian and Grogu. In the footage shown at D23, the Razor Crest, Mando’s old ship, was spotted. This caused some confusion given that the Empire blew up the Razor Crest inThe Mandalorianseason 2, episode 5. After this, Din gained an N1 starfighter as his main ship, which he used throughoutThe Mandalorianseason 3.

However,inThe Mandalorian and Grogu, the Razor Crest is back. It will likely be explained that the ship-builders on Nevarro rebuilt Din’s Razor Crest as a show of appreciation for how much he helped the planet since the beginning of the show. That said, it still continues the aggravating trend of big, emotional, character-altering moments being reversed for little to no reason.

This Mandalorian Trend Ruins Emotionally Impactful Moments

Moments Of Heightened Emotion Are Lessened With Every Reversal

Why this trend is so frustrating links solely to the emotional impact of the show. Although some ofThe Mandalorian’s story reveals have been trivial things, like the loss of the beskar spear, others have been linked to massive moments in the show’s story. IG-11’s sacrifice, for example, was one of the most emotionally impactful moments ofThe Mandalorianseason 1. It proved to Din that droids are more than just evil, unthinking killers and allowed an enjoyable character a sacrifice worthy of the show’s best. Bringing IG-11 back to life simply nullifies this sacrifice and its ramifications.

Similarly, Din gaining control of the Darksaber was a hugely consequential story point.Star Wars’wielders of the Darksaberhold the right to rule the entirety of Mandalore, with some believing this was the culmination of Din’s arc after he claimed the weapon. A season later, the Darksaber was handed to Bo-Katan on an illogical technicalitythat Din lost the saber when defeated by a crab-droid creature below Mandalore, which Bo-Katan subsequently killed.

The Darksaber’s Complete Star Wars History & Timeline Explained

The full story of the Darksaber has now been told, but many mysteries remain surrounding the legendary Mandalorian blade of leadership.

Undoubtedly, the most egregious reversal in the entire show, however, ironically came in a different series entirely. Grogu leaving with Luke Skywalker inThe Mandalorianseason 2’s finale was overly emotional, led by an exceptional performance by Pedro Pascal. This moment promised a big status quo change for both Din and Grogu going forward, yet by the timeThe Mandalorianseason 3 rolled around, the pair were reunited. This reunion came inThe Book of Boba Fett, negatively impacting the quality of that show as well asThe Mandalorianseason 3.

Where the Razor Crest is concerned, the ship being rebuilt lessens the sadness of it being destroyed. For Din, the Razor Crest was the only home he ever had. He lived on the ship and used it for both work and recreation, meaning its destruction saw Din lose all of this. This made his finding a home on Nevarro inThe Mandalorianseason 3’s finale all the more effective, which the Razor Crest being rebuilt inThe Mandalorian and Grogunow makes somewhat pointless.

Despite Frustrations, The Return Of The Razor Crest Makes Sense

The Setup Of The Mandalorian & Grogu’s Story Helps Explain The Razor Crest’s Return

Given that the Razor Crest’s return now takes this trend into double figures regarding how much it has happened withThe Mandalorian, the frustration may be compounded. Despite this, the return of the Razor Crest is one of the more logical reversals Jon Favreau has made. This stems fromThe Mandalorianseason 3’s ending, specifically how Din’s promise to the New Republic saw him requiring a bigger ship than his N1 starfighter.

Din will need a ship like the Razor Crest, which was shown inThe Mandalorianseason 1 to easily stash his bounties…

The promise in question was Din’s vow to hunt down Imperial remnants in the Outer Rim. Without officially joining the New Republic Rangers, Din is going to protect the worlds of the Outer Rim from Imperials by tracking them down and bringing them to Carson Teva. For that, Din will need a ship like the Razor Crest, which was shown inThe Mandalorianseason 1 to easily stash his bounties. For this reason, the return of the Razor Crest is a logical course correction, even thoughThe Mandalorian and Groguis continuing its franchise’s most frustrating trend.
