Classic Villains, Such as Zorak, Are Getting Serious Upgrades
Earlier this year, Dynamite Entertainment brought the legendary Space Ghost back to comics with a brand-new series.Space Ghosttakes a “from the ground up” approach to the character and his mythos, showing the origins of his sidekicks Jan and Jayce. WhileSpace Ghostdoes new and exciting things with the lore, it also respects what has come before: in this new series, Space Ghost is as much of an enigma and a mystery as he was in his 1960s heyday. Many of Space Ghost’s enemieshave received makeovers as well, but perhaps none more extreme than Zorak.
While the shows were undeniably funny, Zorak’s maliciousness was erased entirely.

In the classicSpace Ghostcartoon, the insectoid Zorak was a fearsome enemy, and tangled with the hero on several occasions. WhenSpace Ghost: Coast to Coastdebuted, Zorak became the wise-cracking band leader for his former enemies’ talk show. The program received a spin-off,The Brak Show, in which Zorak was the title character’s best friend, often getting into mischief together. These two shows created an image of Zorak as a goofy sidekick. While the shows were undeniably funny, Zorak’s maliciousness was erased entirely.
Zorak Is Now A Genuine Threat to the Galaxy
Now, Pepose and Lau have given the villain a massive upgrade. When Space Ghost first encountered Zorak on Saturday mornings in the 1960s, the creature was the leader of an army of evil warriors.Dynamite’sSpace Ghostcreative team have taken this a step further, putting Zorak at the head of a fanatical, genocidal cult. Zorak seeks nothing less than destroying the universe and all life in it, and Lokar is his means of doing so.Space Ghostcalled the once-goofy Zorak a “true believer” in this evil god as he returns to his evil ways.
