Kylo Renmight have the coolest lightsaber inStar Wars, as its unstable nature due to its cracked kyber crystal makes the ‘saber look like a flaming sword as opposed to a beam of light, and the lateral vents give the appearance of an energy crossguard. No matter one’s opinion on Kylo Ren as a character or the sequel trilogy as a whole, this lightsaber is badass. But, perhaps it’s not the greatest, as that honor arguably goes to anotherStar Warsvillain: a Sith called Darth Momin.

InDarth Vader#22 by Charles Soule and Giuseppe Camuncoli,Darth Vader is building his fortress on Mustafar, and to help him is the essence of a long-dead Sith, Darth Momin. Before the death of his physical body centuries earlier, Darth Momin imbued his helmet with his essence. This allowed him to not only remain in the physical world, but also granted him the power to possess anyone who wears his mask. As Momin and Vader work together, Momin reveals his backstory, which includes the history of his lightsabers.

When Momin was a boy, he would kill small animals to make sculptures with their mutilated corpses. As he got older, Momin would do the same thing with people, which is what landed him in prison. However, a Sith Lord who heard about his twisted proclivities busted him out and made him her apprentice. Under her tutelage, Momin used his artistic talents to forge himself a helmet using two mini-lightsaber sculpting tools - the same ones he used to mutilate his own face before putting the helmet on forever. And, after some time, those mini-lightsaber sculpting tools became his Sith lightsabers.

Darth Momin’s Lightsabers Reveal What Kind of Sith He was in Star Wars

Darth Momin was an Artist Before He was a Sith, & His Lightsabers Reflect That

Darth Momin kept the hilts of his sculpting tools after bleeding his kyber crystals, which speaks to the kind of person he was on multiple levels. Momin held those hilts when he sculpted the helmet his soul would live in for generations, and he held them when he disfigured his own face, making the fact that he wanted to keep them for his main ‘sabers utterly horrific, and deeply disturbing.

Not only that, but the fact that Darth Momin converted sculpting tools into lightsabers truly reveals what kind of Sith he was. As his story progresses, Momin makes it clear that he had no interest in learning the ways of the Sith, and didn’t want a master or apprentice. Momin only wanted to please the dark side of the Force through his artwork - his twisted, fleshy sculptures. Before, Momin only had generic sculpting tools to create his horrific art, but as a Sith, his lightsabers became his sculpting tools - literally.

Kylo Ren’s Lightsaber Looks Cool, but Darth Momin’s Hold More Personal Significance

The Added Significance of Darth Momin’s Lightsabers Make Them Better than Kylo Ren’s

The unstable nature of Kylo Ren’s lightsaber reflects his unchecked rage, and his cracked kyber crystal reflects his fractured psyche as a person torn between the light and the dark, but those are fairly generic parallels. Darth Momin, on the other hand, has lightsabers that speak to who he is on a more personal and significant level. Momin is a twisted artist, and his lightsabers are his tools to sculpt that art for the pleasure of the dark side - and that is insanely dark in the coolest way.

Star Wars Unlocked Darth Vader’s Maximum Power in 2024, Turning Him into a Living Superweapon

Darth Vader is an immensely powerful Force-user in Star Wars, but he’s never been stronger than he was in 2024, as he became a living superweapon.

While there are certainly more Sith and other types of dark siders inStar Warscanon that wield awesome lightsabers other than just Kylo Ren and Darth Momin, it can’t be denied that those two dark siders hold a few of the coolest inStar Warshistory. However, between the two of them, the title ofStar Wars’ greatest Sith lightsaber has to go to Darth Momin - sorry,Kylo Ren.
