ManyThe Sims 4players hastily upload their lots directly from Build mode. While this is quick and easy, it often skips the vital test to see if the actual building and objects are functional. Many players use the Gallery to populate their town and provide adequate lots for their Sims. But, it can be a burden if the fridge is inaccessible, the toilets are blocked, or if various floors can’t be easily accessed.

It is important to see if both public and residential lots work with Sims of all ages. Some areas easily used by adults might still cause glitches for children and even younger Sims. This is especially true forinfants inThe Sims 4, who have only been a lifestate for two years. Ladders are a prime example, as the adult Sim needs one hand free to carry a baby up and down. Accounting for animals is also great, but it isn’t as heavy a requirement as not every player has access to cats, dogs, and horses inTS4.

Sims Need Ample Space To Move Around

Don’t Sacrifice Comfort For Aesthetics

Some Builders will place walls, useable objects, and decorations the bare minimum distance from each other. While this can look nice during construction, it doesn’t pan out duringTS4gameplay. MostSims need an entire grid square or moreto properly use an object. Additionally, controlled Sims might body-block each other when using the same object. This typically happens when forming a Group and using the option to have everyone do an activity together.

TheOnsen hotspring fromTS4: Snowy Escapecan be a big issue in Live mode. With so many Sims going in and out, they can often form a crowd. Remove any objects that can get in the way of their path, even if it makes the structure less beautiful.

Among the most annoying is bed placement. If a double bed is placed against a wall, some Sims may be unwilling to climb over a sleeping partner, making it important that the more cramped one goes to bed first. Bunkbeds are another issue, as the ceiling needs to be high enough, and any hanging lights need to be out of the way. Even EA is guilty of these bed issues when making theirlots inThe Sims 4.

Cheats And Mods Are More Likely To Make A Lot Unplayable

Snapping Items Together Can Break Them in Live Mode

Two of the biggest culprits in dysfunctional lots are specificTS4Build Mode cheats. These are the ever-popular“bb.moveobject”and“bb.showhiddenobjects”. The former allows Builders to place objects far too close to each other, sometimes occupying the same grid space. The latter allows access to many debug items like cars and natural objects, most of which were not designed for use on lots. While these can be fine for something out of bounds of aneighborhood inThe Sims 4, be sure to turn off these cheats when finalizing a true living space.

The Most Underrated Sims Game Had One Feature The Sims 4 Desperately Needs

The Sims Medieval had all kinds of extra deaths compared to The Sims 4. Sword duels poison, executions, and deadly magic could all be added.

While it is rare, some mods can also disrupt a shared lot. These are mostly lighting mods that either darken or brighten your own game. When shared with other players, they might be blinded by either the lack or overabundance of electric lights. If you use many PC mods, be mindful of players who can only accessTS4via console.

Spend a Few Days In Live Mode

If you are a dedicatedTS4Builder, you should still take the time to experience your own creations in Live mode for at least three to seven days. Ideally, try to experience the lot with at least four Sims of different life states and traits, including a mix of played and NPC Sims. The main priority is that the Sims can complete their basic needs: beds to sleep in, food to eat, a workable shower, etc.

Next, focus on skill objects you want your lot to feature on yourTS4. This includes proper sizes for fishing holes, useable gym equipment, and spaced-out planter boxes for gardening. On public lots, be sure to complete items that have a build time, like Rocket Ships and Treehouses. Skipping this step can cause them to break for other players, such ashaving slides and bells that connect to nothing. If your own Sims get confused or make flustered emotes, then go back into Build mode to make changes.

Once your lot is live on the Gallery, read the comments from otherThe Sims 4users. If they find bugs and flaws in your design, try to fix them. You can always re-upload a lot, though it won’t have the old likes and comments.Being a great Buildershould be more about serving the community with cool lots than chasing downloads, clout, or trends.
