Apple TV+ returned musical theater to the small screen withSchmigadoon!, but the TV journey into the world of musicals was tragically cut short when the show wasn’t renewed for season 3. The World of Schmigadoon!’s First Season Has Been Brought to Life For Live Audiences

A stage version ofSchmigadoon!premiered at the Kennedy Center on January 31 and ran until February 9. While most actors from the television show didn’t return for the stage version, the cast ofSchmigadoon!was still stacked with beloved stage performers, including Alex Brightman, Sara Chase, Kevin Del Aguila, McKenzie Kurtz, Isabelle McCalla, Javier Muñoz, and more. Ann Harada, who plays Florence Menlove in the television show, reprized her role.

What Schmigadoon! Season 3 Would Have Looked Like

Melissa and Josh Would Have Journeyed Into the Schmoods

Series creator Cinco Paul has revealed on Twitter that season 3,Into the Schmoods!, was entirely written before the series was canceled. The season would have been six episodes long, andPaul wrote 25 new songs. In another tweet, Paul lists the musicals the season would have drawn inspiration from, including popular shows such asRent,Les Misérables,Cats,Merrily We Roll Along, and, of course,Into the Woods. Most of the actors inSchmigadoon!portraynew characters inSchmigadoon!season 2, suggesting that the third season would have introduced more new iterations.

While there is no official news about aSchmigadoon!revival, Paul has also mentioned on social media that he hasn’t given up on it happening, andKeegan-Michael Key expressed interest in returning in an interviewwithScreen Rant. However, the rights to the script of what would have been the third season are owned by Apple, so the future of the show is not entirely in the creative team’s hands (viaPlaybill). Regardless, the love that the people behind the show have for the series and the show’s adaptation at the Kennedy Center show that the future ofSchmigadoon!is worth keeping a close eye on.
