Saturday Night Faces Some Key Challenges
John Belushi, Dan Aykroyd, Chevy Chase & Others Are Iconic Figures
While theSaturday Nightcast features an array of talented actors,it will be no easy task to bring to life so many historic comedians with whom audiences are already so intimately familiar. Figures likeBelushi, Aykroyd, and Chase, for example, were titans of comedy in the ’70s and ’80s, and many of their bits from the show (and beyond) remain memorable cultural touchstones to this day. Despite the talent of actors like O’Brien, Wood, and Smith, capturing the essence of these real-life figures will be a major challenge.
O’Brien remains best known for his starring role in theMaze Runnermovies.

There’s reason to be cautiously optimistic, however, asReitman has a fairly strong recent track record as a filmmaker. Reitman directed2021’sGhostbusters: Afterlife, which was a hit for, among other reasons, its reverence of the franchise’s past. If the director brings this same reverence forSNLtoSaturday Night, audiences, especially those old enough to remember the show’s first episode, could be in for a nostalgic journey. BeforeGhostbusters: Afterlife, Reitman also directed 2018’sTully, which was well-received, and 2007’s Oscar-winningJuno.
Saturday Night Live: 15 Best Female Cast Members, Ranked
Saturday Night Live has seen a number of amazingly talented female cast members that have left their mark over the years. Here are some of the best.
For those not old enough to rememberSNL’s beginnings or for those who don’t watch the show,Saturday Nightcould struggle to make a case for itself. As recent releases have proven, engaging younger audiences is often crucial to achieving box office success, and there might not be a strong enough hook here to capture those non-SNLfans. In any case,Saturday Nightevidently looks to be recreating the firstSNLshow with energy and passion, and the first images mean a trailer is probably not far off.
