ThePokémon Trading Card Gamehas officially announced Journey Together, which will bring back Trainer’s Pokémon cards for the first time in years. 2025 is shaping up to be a massive year for thePokémon Trading Card Game. The popular card game is kicking off 2025 with the specialsetPrismatic Evolutions, which will bring a plethora of new Special Illustration Rare and Pokémon ex cards. That will be followed by a series of sets focused on Trainer’s Pokémon, a type of Pokémon card that was first introduced in the earliest days of thePokémon TCGbut hasn’t appeared in years.
Today, thePokémon TCGofficially announcedJourney Together, a new set that formally introduces Trainer’s Pokémon cards to international players. The new set will add four Trainer’s Pokémon ex cards (specifically N’s Zoroark ex, Lillie’s Clefairy ex, Iono’s Bellibolt ex and Hop’s Zacian ex) along with several other Pokémon ex cards, new illustration rare cards, and special illustration rare cards. The set will formally launch on August 16, 2025, with prereleases happening two weeks beforehand, and products can already be found on thePokémon Centerwebsite.

At Least Four Trainers And Their Pokémon Will Be Featured In New Set
ThePokémon TCGconfirmed that the set will initially feature four Trainer’s Pokémon ex cards.N, Iono, Lillie, and Hop all appear in the promo materialand booster pack art for the new set, but it’s unclear whether other trainers will appear in the other set. Other confirmed types of cards that will appear inJourney Togetherinclude the following:
Interestingly, the press release announcingJourney Togetherdoes not mention several key cards that have appeared in earlier sets from last year. For example, the press release does not mention Tera Pokémon ex cards, Stellar Tera Pokémon ex cards, or ACE SPEC cards. These were all major parts of earlierScarlet & Violetsets, so it’s unclear if these cards are totally phased out of upcoming sets or were simply not mentioned in the press release. Existing cards of those types are all still legal to use in gameplay, but it could mean no new cards of those types will be produced.

Our Take: Pokémon TCG Begins A Massive 2025
Trainer’s Pokémon Will Be A Big Addition To Game
Trainer’s Pokémon cardsare going to be a big deal for thePokémon TCG. Not only do the sets encourage certain kinds of synergies, but they will also certainly be big chase cards for many collectors. I can’t wait to see the special illustration rare cards for this set and future Trainer’s Pokémon cards. I also can’t wait to see what trainers eventually get featured in future sets. Some characters were already confirmed in trailers for last year, but I expect to see more surprises as the new gimmick rolls out over the course of the year.
