Power Spots have started to appear across the map inPokémon GO, bringing glowing pink landmarks to the game for the first time ever. These mysterious spots signal the imminent arrival of Dynamaxing, a new feature that will let Trainers take on giant-sized Pokémon in exciting Max Battles. But for now, they simply exist to provide Max Particles to anyone who interacts with them.

The mainlinePokémon Sword & Shieldgames on Nintendo Switch introduced Trainers to the Galar region, a land inspired by the United Kingdom. As well as a host of new Pokémon like the adorableWater-type Sobble, the game featured Dynamaxing, letting Pokémon grow to skyscraper heights and gain devastating attacks. Five years later, this exciting feature is now coming toPokémon GOthrough Power Spots.

What Are Power Spots In Pokémon GO?

A New Landmark That’s Home To Max Battles

Power Spots are glowing pink icons that appear across the map inPokémon GO, providing Max Particles for Trainers that interact with them. Eventually, they’ll alsocontain powerful Dynamax Pokémon, which can be battled and caught in Max Battles. However, this feature is being saved for the GO Big event, which begins on August 07, 2025, at 10 AM local time.

The first Dynamax Pokémon to take over Power Spots will be Bulbasaur, Charmander, Squirtle, Skwovet, and Wooloo, all of which will appear in One-Star Max Battles. You’ll need to team up with other Trainers to defeat them, just likeregular Raid Battlesat Gyms. Finally, it’s worth noting that Power Spots aren’t permanent like PokéStops are, so their locations will change over time. They also do not replace existing PokéStops or Gyms.

13 Rarest Pokémon In Pokémon GO & How To Get Them

There are hundreds of Pokémon to catch in Pokémon GO, but some of them are rarer than others, like regional exclusives or Armored Mewtwo.

I went outside to look for Power Spots as soon as they went live in the UK and noticed there werea lot more of them appearing in busy areas than in quieter parts of the city. This is most likely going to be the case all over the world, similar to how PokéStops are more frequent in locations with heavy footfall. If you’re a rural Trainer, you might struggle to find Power Spots in your local area.

Visit Power Spots & Complete Research Tasks

The main way to collect Max Particles inPokémon GOis togo out exploring and interact with as many Power Spots as you can. Every time you find one, you’ll be able to collect 120 Max Particles by tapping on them, then rinse and repeat at a new location. According to the in-game Power Spot tracker, there’sa limit of 1000 Max Particles per day, so once you’ve reached this number, you’ll need to wait for the following day to get more.

You can sometimes see Power Spots glowing in the distance on the map screen, but if you can’t spot any this way, you can alsobrowse a list of nearby Power Spots by tapping the"Nearby"button at the bottom-right-hand corner of the screenand then scrolling across to the"Power Spot"tab. Each Power Spot has a countdown letting you know how long they’ll be there for, which is ideal for planning ahead. You cancollect Max Particles from a Power Spot once per day, so if you know it will disappear in a few hours, you don’t need to return to that location the following day.

You’ll also get300 Max Particles for exploring 2km. This can be done multiple times, but remember there’s a limit on how many Max Particles you can collect in a single day. If you’re living in an area that doesn’t have many Power Spots, this is going to be the primary way you’ll obtain Max Particles.

Another way to get Max Particles is tocomplete the new"To The Max!“Special Research storythat will be given out to all Trainers when they log in to the game during the current Max Out season.
