Disney’s beloved cartoonPhineas and Ferbfollows the titular brothers, voiced by Vincent Martella and Thomas Brodie Sangster, as they vow to spend each summer off from school inventing extravagant new things, breaking records, and going on wild adventures. All the while,Phineas and Ferb’s pet platypus, Perry, is living a double life as a secret agentconstantly battling the dimwitted wannabe villain Dr. Doofenshmirtz (Dan Povenmire). The gag is, the boys' mother is constantly aloof to her sons' adventures.

Even after a number of the show’s other characters learn of the brothers' fantastical adventures, the boys' mother, Linda Flynn-Fletcher (Caroline Rhea) continues to live in her own world.ThePhineas and Ferbmatriarch is often spotted spending time with their dadand on the phone with her friends. When the boys cover up some of their rule-breaking ways, she typically buys into their excuses –but come on, she should have known better.Amid theupcomingPhineas and Ferbseason 5 revival, there are many reasons to think about why their mother should have caught on by now.

He Chooses To Overlook Phineas and Ferb’s Antics

Lawrence Fletcher (Richard O’Brien) is Ferb’s father and Phineas and Candace’s (Ashley Tisdale) stepfather. Like Ferb, Lawrence offers a hilarious spoof on dry British humor. While he is thrown off the scent of the boys' adventures for a while,he is often too preoccupied with watching movies or spending time with Linda to notice. He is a historian and antique dealer whose interests often overlap with his sons', and he occasionally even participates in their inventions.

Upcoming Phineas And Ferb Reboot Needs To Fix One Big Problem With The Original Cartoon

The upcoming Phineas and Ferb reboot must ensure that Candace has more to do on the show other than her usual plans of spoiling her brothers’ fun.

Phineas and Ferb’s father is shown to have many eccentricities of his own. Outside his academic pursuits, he has a strong affinity for fishing, and is often seen telling lengthy and drawling stories about his misadventures in the fishing world. While the boys are not necessarily fishermen themselves, their father’s offbeat niche interests clearly serve as inspiration.

Phineas And Ferb

Lawrence finds out about Phineas and Ferbs' inventions in season 1, episode 10, “It’s A Mud, Mud, Mud World”, in which the brothers resolve to make a monster truck to help their sister Candace learn to parallel park. He even goes as far as assisting them in their project. The boys' close relationship with their father is showcased further in season 3, episode 11, when the boys create a magic carpet inspired by his favorite childhood television show.

The awe-stricken Lawrence managed to find tickets to Linda’s favorite band, Love Händel, where the pair shared their first kiss after being featured on the arena’s kiss cam.

The show backtracks to depicting Linda and Lawrence’s relationship, which began in the 1990s. The awe-stricken Lawrence managed to find tickets to Linda’s favorite band, Love Händel, where the pair shared their first kiss after being featured on the arena’s kiss cam. The odd couple clearly have a strong bond, andit’s certainly amusing that Linda would be so out of the loop on her sons' businesswith such a devoted husband at her side.

5Their Friends' Parents Know

Phineas and Ferb’s Close Circle Of Friends Are Also In On Their Inventions

Phineas and Ferb have a tight-knit circle of friendsthroughout the show’s four-season run. These included Isabella Garcia-Shapiro (Alyson Stoner), Baljeet Tjinder (Maulik Pancholy), Adyson Sweetwater (Madison Pettis), Albert DuBois (Diedrich Bader), Buford Van Stomm (Bobby Gaylor) Candace’s boyfriend Jeremy Johnson (Mitchell Musso), and more. Given the fact that boys' inventions tend to take over the neighborhood, their friends' parents are largely aware of them and have approved of their own children’s participation.

Specifically, the Fireside Girls (modeled after the real-life Girl Scouts) often use their unique skills to assist in Phineas and Ferb’s ambitious inventions. Since their troop activities are likely parent-sanctioned, it is made clear that the girls are often involved in the boys' summer adventures with their families' blessings.Candace even attempts to notify Baljeet’s mother of the group’s wild escapades, only to be beaten to the punch yet againby Phineas and Ferb’s quick clean-up times.

A key reason as to why Linda does not often believe her son’s inventions is that she knows about their active imaginations, often inspired by their fathers' creativity.

Oftentimes, the boys will fully confess to their antics, and she laughs it off as their imaginative spirit.Their inventions are often the talk of the town, even with their friend’s parents. Linda’s husband and daughter’s involvement, coupled with the town-wide gossip, should have certainly tipped her off by now.

4Phineas And Ferb Have A Media Presence

Their Innovations Have Caught The Attention Of The Local And National News Many Times

Phineas and Ferb’s inventions have caught the attention of the local and national media, and even several celebrities.A number of real-life celebrities have made cameo appearances in the show, including Jennifer Grey, Sophia Bush, Tim Curry, Kelly Clarkson, Clay Aiken, Jane Lynch, and more. Many of these cameos include fictionalized versions of real celebrities, making Phineas and Ferb incredibly recognizable in their own universe.

Since Phineas and Ferb are capturing the attention of the rich and famous, they tend to land themselves on the news. Between new innovations and breaking world records, one would think that the amount of media attention placed on them would inspire their mother to believe their antics once and for all. Still, throughout the show, Linda remains in her own world, separate from the boys' adventures and, apparently, pop culture.

Phineas and Ferbcame up in the burgeoning era of internet culture, and the boys' additional knowledge of new technology and the concept of going viral also illustrates a generational divide. At this point in time, parents were largely still catching up to understanding the new role that social media and technology played in their children’s lives. This moment in time is illustrated well through the ongoing hyperbole ofPhineas and Ferb.

3Phineas And Ferb Are Revealed To Be Members Of The City Council

Candace’s Day As Mayor Backfires

Candace is awarded the opportunity to be mayor of the town for a day in season 2, episode 51, andshe attempts to use her legislative powers to bust her brothers. It is then revealed that the whole time, Phineas and Ferb are members of the city council. Their innovations coupled with their knowledge of history and local government (likely learned from their fathers' lessons) make them the perfect candidates for their city council roles. These positions of power also make it possible for them to create some of their larger projects in town.

Given that city councilmen are public-facing political roles, this should have been the revelation that Linda needed. It appears she is not in the loop on local politics, and thus, yet again, neglected to realize her sons' rising positions of power in the world. While Candace also has aspirations in life, hers feel more realistic to Linda, including her mayor-for-a-day moment. She typically does believe Candace in other things, whichmakes her lack of belief in Candace’s attempts to bust her siblings all the more humorously unrealistic.

2Even Jeremy Knows

Candace’s Boyfriend Is Also Aware

The anxious Candace begins dating the laid-back Jeremy inPhineas and Ferbseason 2. Jeremy is a roll-with-the-punches kind of guy, and is fairly unfazed when it comes to her brothers' inventions. He often takes their creations as moments to bond with themas he continues to build a relationship with Candace. As he is eager to please her family, he is open to her brothers' ideas and honest with her parents.

He is even affected in whimsical ways by Doofenshmirtz' many failed “inator” machines, at one point even turning into a metalhead.

Jeremy often participates in Phineas and Ferb’s big ideas, and even takes Candace on a date to the brothers' restaurant that they build. He is even affected in whimsical ways by Doofenshmirtz' many failed “inator” machines, at one point even turning into a metalhead. As Jeremy has also met Linda and had long conversations with her,it is unlikely for Linda to continue to overlook her sons' activities given yet another older teenager’s involvement.

1Just Common Sense - Would Candace Really Be Making This Up?

It Takes Until The Very End For Her To Realize

Again, as Candace is very transparent with her mother about her life, including her tiffs with her best friend Stacy (Kelly Hu) and her relationship with her boyfriend Jeremy,it would not make sense for Candace to be making this up. Candace is shown to be an average teenage girl who enjoys going to the movies, reading books, and spending time with her crush and her friends. Since she seldom participates in her brothers' outlandish projects, her imagination would not run as wild as Linda often claims of her sons, and thus her grounded point of view could have been trusted earlier.

Candace also does not fabricate anything else in her life, even sometimes to the dismay of her mother. Given her honesty, it would also just not make sense for her to make up lies about her brothers, since she does not make up lies about her own relationships or responsibilities. As Candace is also the oldest sibling, she has a strong bond with Linda based on emotional transparency. Since she clearly trusts Candace, why not trust her on this?

The boys are never really busted when all is said and done, largely because, despite Candace’s efforts, she loves and admires her brothers most of all. In season 1, episode 45, Candace has a dream of the potential consequences of her brothers being busted, including them being sent to a strict reform school that would destroy their creativity and unique personalities. This alone inspires Candace to instead secretly admire her brothers' tenacity throughPhineas and Ferb, while maintaining her typical sibling rivalry at the same time.
