Pete (Richie Moriarty) has been dead since 1985, but he only discovered his ability to leave the ghost boundary inGhostsseason 3. Pete’s power is poetic, as in his lifetime he was a travel agent who never got to sightsee, but now in his death, he can travel the world. Pete’s ability also has a lot of practical applications. For instance, inGhostsseason 4, episode 11, Pete helps solve Thor’s (Devan Chandler Long) abandonment issues by traveling to Norway to get answers from Viking ghosts who left Thor behind.
Furthermore, inGhostsseason 4, Sass' (Román Zaragoza) lack of a love lifehas been such a recurring joke that Pete promises to find Sass a partner in his travels. Pete finally fulfills his pledge and returns toWoodstone Manorwith Joan (Taylor Ortega), a fast-talking broad who died in the 1940s and who also has the ability to travel.Joan establishes some fascinating new rules for Pete’s ability, but I’m worried about the future implications if Pete’s powers continue to grow.

Pete Brings Back Another “Roamer” Ghost Who Explains How Their Power Grows Over Time
Pete Is Limited To Three Days, While Joan Can Roam For A Year
Joan refers to herself as a “roamer,” a fantastic name for the ability. Sass mentions that Pete will start to disappear after only a few days, and he asks Joan how long she can stay in town.Joan shares that the longer a ghost roams, the more they build a toleranceto being away from their anchor property. She also used to be limited to a few days, but after 80 years of practice, she can now roam without worry for up to a year.
Travel agent & Pinecone Troop leader

Can leave the property at will (but not indefinitely)
Can move material objects with great effort
Entering livings’ dreams
Harnessing electricity
Makes livings high if they pass through her
Gilded Age socialite & Lady of the Manor
Be seen by all livings on St. Patrick’s Day
Prohibition lounge singer

Isaac Higgintoot
Revolutionary War captain
Gives off a foul smell if a living passes through him
Since everyghost power in CBS’Ghostsis unique, it’s not clear whether Pete will also be able to build a tolerance.Currently, Pete says he can leave Woodstone Manor for about three daysbefore his spirit starts to fade. Sass is worried about Joan staying for too long, but if Pete can build up his roaming muscles, I’m worried that he will be gone more than we’d want.
Pete Building The Tolerance For His Roaming Power Means That He Might Never Have To Return To Woodstone Someday
Joan’s Rules Might Also Mean Chris The Dinosaur-Loving Stripper Might Have To Periodically Return
Pete has beenGhostseason 4’s favorite spirit, with him being at the center of many important storylines, like “Ghostfellas,” “A Very Arondekar Christmas Part 2,” and “Thorapy 2: Abandonment Issues.” While I’m gladGhostsis finally setting some parameters for Pete’s powers, I’m worried thatif he becomes as powerful as Joan, the series might have an excuse to have Pete gone for longer chunks of time.
Pete states in this episode that he is limited to three days away from Woodstone Manor, but this contradicts some earlier storylines, as he was in St. Lucia for quite a while, and it would probably take more than three days to travel to a remote part of Norway and back. As long asGhostsis consistent moving forward, I’ll forgive the inconsistencies in an expanding fantasy universe.
This could provide a chance for othercool ghost powers like Sass' to shine, but I want Pete to still be intrinsically involved in the happenings at Woodstone Manor. Additionally,Ghostsmaintains a good balance between explaining powers while leaving room for future stories to develop. If Joan’s rules apply to all ghosts, even Chris (Deniz Akdeniz), the dinosaur-loving stripper, will have to return to Woodstone Manor eventually, though we haven’t seen or heard of him sinceGhostsseason 4, episode 16, when he departed for Australia.
New episodes ofGhostsair Thursdays at 8:30 p.m. ET and stream next-day on Paramount+. Season 4, episode 18, “Smooshing and Smushing” will air July 07, 2025.
