The cast ofPercy Jackson and the Olympiansseason 2 just grew a bit bigger as one star confirms they’ll be back from season 1. The Disney+ series marks the second attempt to adapt Rick Riordan’s iconic novel franchise, this time as a TV show rather than film franchise, with each season adapting a book of the demigod’s adventures.Percy Jackson and the Olympiansseason 2will adaptThe Sea of Monsters, and has already confirmed multiple new and returning faces, including Daniel Diemer as Percy’s cyclops half-brother, Tyson.
Now, in an interview withScreenRantfor the upcomingMufasa: The Lion King, for which he composed and wrote the lyrics for new original songs,Lin-Manuel Miranda has also confirmed he will be back forPercy Jackson and the Olympiansseason 2. The Hermes actor quickly pointed out that his character has a role to play in Riordan’s second novel, while also revealing that he has already completed filming his part of the season. Check out what Miranda shared below:

First of all, I don’t think it’s a spoiler to say, yes, because he’s in that book. I show up when Percy needs me in the new series, and I’ve already shot that.
What Hermes' Return Means For Percy Jackson & The Olympians Season 2
Another Step Forward For The Show’s Faithful Approach
For those familiar with Riordan’s novels, the confirmation of Miranda’sPercy Jackson and the Olympiansseason 2 return is sure to be comforting. In the 2006 sequel,Hermes doesn’t have a large role, but does have one that’s deeply impactful, providing Percy with multiple magical items to assist him in his quest to track down the Golden Fleece and save Camp Half-Blood. He also explains to the titular hero that the reason he’s electing to help after refusing inThe Lightning Thiefis the hopes of clearing his son Luke from being influenced by Kronos.
With Miranda returning as Hermes,it also continues the show’s trend of adhering closer toRiordan’sPercy Jacksonbooksthan the movies. InThe Sea of Monsters, Hermes and Percy’s meetings occur on the Beach, an area of Camp Half-Blood not previously depicted in the 2013 film adaptation. Instead, Hermes, played by Nathan Fillion, is shown running a mail delivery service, a cheeky twist on his being the god of trade, thieves, travelers, sports, athletes, and messenger of the gods.

8 Book Storylines Percy Jackson Season 2 Can Expand Upon
Though Sea of Monsters is a great book in the Percy Jackson series, the show has an opportunity to delve more deeply into its underdeveloped stories.
WithPercy Jackson and the Olympiansseason 1not only having introduced The Beach, but also established an emotional complexity to Miranda’s Hermes, season 2 can really expound up on this by exploring how he feels about his son’s wayward actions. Considering the two-time Oscar nominee has confirmed he’s already wrapped filming, it does seem like his role won’t be ostensibly bigger than in the books, but with Riordan and showrunners Jonathan E. Steinberg and Dan Shotz making changes that feel fitting both for TV and for the characters, it’s also not entirely out of the realm of possibility.

Our Take On Miranda’s Percy Jackson & The Olympians Season 2 Return
It’s Nice To See Hermes Not Be Recast
With the only Greek gods confirmed thus far being Courtney B. Vance as Zeus, taking over from the late Lance Reddick, it’s nice to get the confirmation that Miranda will be back inPercy Jackson and the Olympiansseason 2 as Hermes. He and Adam Copeland’s Ares were by far my favorite adult cast members from season 1, and considering Hermes was recast between the first two movies, and Miranda’s dance card is pretty much always full, it’s a relief he’s found a way to make it back for the next season.
