The following contains spoilers for Paradise season 1 episode 8, “The Man Who Kept The Secrets,” now streaming on HuluJane became one of the biggest villains inParadiseseason 1, but she finishes the season saving Xavier’s daughter and betraying Sinatra, making it unclear where her loyalties will lie when the show returns for season 2. Jane’s sweet exterior as she worked alongside Xavier Collins and Billy Pace slowly revealed itself to be a ruse, and it’s eventually revealed that she is serving as Samantha Redmond’s personal agent and assassin.

There’s much more to Jane than what we’ve seen, though. TheParadiseseason 1 finale takes a huge turn when even Redmond becomes unnerved by Jane. By the end of the season, Jane is hiding in plain sight as a major ally to Xavier and his family, all the while retaining a cold ability to shut down any complications that get in her way.

In an interview with Screen Rant to celebrate the conclusion of season 1, Bloom reflected on learning the truth about Jane, if we ever see through the facade to the real version of her, and who she wants to see Jane interact with inParadiseseason 2.

Nicole Brydon Bloom Explains Jane’s Decision To Help Presley & Xavier

“Does She Have A Heart?”

Jane’s story inParadiseseason 1 has been nothing short of twisty, with the seemingly unassuming agent turning out to be a stone-cold killer in the pocket of Sinatra. Still, of all the twists this season, Bloom was surprised most by Jane’s decision in the finale.“I sort of understood who she was in the beginning. She’s playing this part very convincingly,“Bloom says of her character’s introduction.

“Then I sort of understood the middle, where it’s revealed that she’s a double agent and maybe struggling with being a little bit of a psychopath,“Bloom continues.“That all sort of made sense to me.“But once Jane chose to save Presley and turn against Sinatra, Bloom became less sure about her character’s true nature.“Now I kind of like Jane [laughs].”

Jane talks on a cell phone in Paradise season 1

“She didn’t do the thing that she said she was going to do on behalf of Sinatra. She made her own choice. That makes me wonder, okay, does she have a heart? Does she have any kind of empathy towards Presley and Xavier?“Still, this decision doesn’t fully soothe Bloom’s fear of Jane’s psychopathy.

“Her main motivation was the Wii. So that could just a continuation of her being childlike and kind of a psychopath.”

Jane’s Role In Paradise Season 2 Teased By Nicole Brydon Bloom

“It’ll Be Interesting To See If We Cross Paths”

So where will Jane be whenParadisereturns for season 2? Not even Bloom is certain.“I know we see Xavier leaving the bunker, so I don’t know that I’ll have a ton of scenes with him, at least early on,“Bloom says of working with Sterling K. Brown’s character. Bloom goes on to address the rest of the cast, pondering who Jane could work with now that she’s a rogue agent.

“As far as we know, Sinatra is sort out of pocket at the moment. It’ll be interesting to see if we cross paths. There’s also Charlie, who plays [Jeremy Bradford]. We never really got to work together, but he’s such a sweet kid and such a phenomenal actor. It would be fun to play with him and Aliyah [Mastin] more as well.“Only time will tell where Jane will really end up, though.

Why Jane Betrayed Sinatra Explained By Nicole Brydon Bloom

“She Clearly Has some Sort Of Trigger”

Bloom, for all of Jane’s mysteriousness, thinks she clocked the moment when Jane turned on Sinatra and why she did so.“There’s a phone call that Sinatra and I have in the first 10 minutes or so of [the Paradise season 1 finale] where Sinatra sort of flippantly says, ‘Are you crazy?'“If movies and television have taught us anything, it’s that you never call point out a crazy character’s insanity.

“Jane asks for the Wii if she kills Presley. [It’s kind of a fair response to that question. [But] that’s when Jane is like, ‘Okay, we need to end this conversation. I can’t speak to you anymore.'“From then on, it seems, Jane will be going rogue and though she helps Presley and Xavier, it’s still unclear who she is loyal to - other than herself.

I don’t think Jane was born a psychopath.

Why Jane responds in this way, though, Bloom feels the need to explain:“I feel like she clearly has some sort of trigger to people calling her crazy. I think that is the moment that she may be flipped on Redmond.” But has Jane always been this way?“I don’t think [she] was born a psychopath.”

“I think there’s certainly something in her past that led her to become who she is today. And so, for whatever reason, that that phone call was triggering for her, and flipped a bit of a switch.”

Nicole Brydon Bloom Reflects On Discovering The Jane Twist

“She’s Actually Way Smarter Than Most Of The People In This Room”

Reflecting on the entire season, Bloom discussed when she found the true nature of Jane, confirming she did not know initially.“Even once I found out that she was not who she presents as, I didn’t know how that would unfold exactly,“Bloom says. It wasn’t until she met Jon Beavers, who plays Jane’s boyfriend and fellow agent Billy Pace, that she found out about her murderous tendencies.

“Right before I got the part, I did a screen test with [Billy Pace actor Jon Beavers], and that’s when we sort of found outBilly’s fate. We were both like, ‘Oh no!’ But I was kind of excited.“She says,“It is so much more interesting to play a character who has a lot more going on behind the scenes than you know initially.“This presented Bloom with the opportunity to play a very layered character, though.

“I was like, ‘Oh god, it’s going to be so fun when people realize that she’s actually way smarter than most of the people in this room.“Bloom didn’t find it intimidating at all either.“Initially, I did have a lot of questions. Then I realized that I could create my own narrative…”

“It was challenging only because I didn’t always know what was motivating [her]. But in a way, it made it more fun. Just like in Dan’s other shows, there’s so much possibility for these twists and turns and explanations as to why people are who they are. That’ll be really fun to explore, if and when I get the chance.”
