Netflix has since removed any mention ofOne Pieceseason 2’s potential release window from their LEGO collaboration announcement. They have also clarified to us that there is presently no official release date or year for season 2.

Our original story continues below.

One Pieceseason 2 now has an official release window. The Netflix series, which stars Iñaki Godoy as wannabe pirate king Monkey D. Luffy, is a live-action adaptation of the Eiichiro Oda manga series of the same name, which has previously been adapted into a long-running anime series. One Pieceseason 2was renewed two weeks after season 1 premiered in August 2023, but production was delayed to June 2024 amid the dual Hollywood strikes, during which writers and actors took to the picket lines to fight for fair pay throughout 2023.

Season 1 proved itself a worthy adaptation of the source material, not just by scoring an early renewal, but also through its positive critical reception. One Piecereviewspraised the show for its accuracy to the source material, breaking Netflix’s manga and anime adaptation curseestablished by critical flops like theDeath Notemovie and live-actionCowboy Bebop. This also raises the bar for season 2, as many ofOne Piece’s big momentsfrom its second Saga find their way into a new medium. Season 2 wrapped filming in December 2024, hinting release information would be coming soon.

The Show’s Long-Awaited Return Draws Nearer

Although this update does not reveal the exact date that the show will finally follow up on theOne Pieceseason 1 ending, it confirms the maximum length to which the hiatus between seasons can extend. The entirety of season 1 dropped on Netflix on August 04, 2025, so even if the new episodes debut on New Year’s Eve,the wait between seasons will not last any longer than two years and four months.

One Piecewas well-reviewed upon its premiere, earning a Certified Fresh score of 86% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Because streaming series, especially those with extensive visual effects, can tend to have long hiatuses, this is not an entirely abnormal time to waitfor the onscreen reunion of theOne Piecelive-action cast, which also includes Emily Rudd as Nami, Mackenyu as Roronoa Zoro, Jacob Romero Gibson as Usopp, and Taz Skylar as Sanji. For instance, it has been nearly a year since Netflix’s live-actionAvatar: The Last Airbenderwas renewed for season 2, and it has already been two years since season 2 of their hitAddams Family-inspired showWednesdaywas renewed.

Our Take On The One Piece Season 2 Release Window

It Will Probably Be The Show’s Longest Hiatus

There is also a silver lining to the currentOne Piecehiatus being relatively normal for a genre show on Netflix. Because a good portion of the extended hiatus comes from the production delays amid the dual 2023 strikes, this indicates thatthe wait should be significantly shorter should season 3 be renewed, as it likely won’t be impacted by any strikes. While it remains to be seen if season 2 connects with audiences in the same way, the show’s future is looking bright, especially if it is able to develop a slightly quicker release pattern.

If One Piece Season 3 Is Going to Succeed, Netflix Must Get One Thing Right

One Piece Live-Action season 3 is becoming more likely, but it could fall apart if the show fails to give a new character the intro they deserve.

The late 2025 release window also signifies just how long the new episodes will take to get prepared, withthe series releasing 10 months after season 2 wrapped filming at the latest. With everything from super-powered characters like Luffy to entirely CGI heroes like Chopper, it makes sense the wait from filming to the screen is going to take so long. Luckily, the show’s success means season 3’s confirmation will probably happen fast, theStraw Hat Piratescontinuing their adventure by finishing up the final part of the Arabasta Saga in the process.

For now, though, season 2’s confirmed release window is an exciting sign that more information about the episodes will arrive soon. It also emphasizes just how big a year 2025 will be for Netflix, with popular shows likeStranger Things,You, andBig Mouthending, as relatively new shows likeOne Piecebecome the new face of the platform. The series has many expectations to live up to, but confirmation of when to expect new episodes means it won’t be long until its ability to measure up is clear.

Netflix will also be distributing a new anime,The One Piece, produced by Wit Stuido, readapting Oda’s manga from the beginning. The series does not have a release date as of writing.
