Toga and Ochako’s battle is one of the most tragic and complex in theMy Hero Academiauniverse. While Uraraka began the series hating Himiko with a burning passion, by the time the Final War arc began, the aspiring hero wanted to understand her adversary on a deeper level. It wasToga’s words that helped Ochakogrow more emphatic and understand that villains are not pure evil as she used to believe.
This complex and devastating relationship became even more tragic with a small but simple change made to the anime adaptation of the series. In episode 153 of theMy Hero AcademiaTV show,Toga’s last words to Ochako before she is teleported by Kurogiriare handled amazingly and uniquely.

“Changed Their Storylines” - Two Beloved My Hero Academia Characters Are Only Important Because of Fans
While Tsuyu Asui and Himiko Toga might be two of My Hero Academia’s most popular characters, they were originally designed for much smaller roles.
Toga and Ochako’s Fight Became That Much Tragic With A Simple Change
By Showing Himiko Replying To Uraraka, The Anime Greatly Developed Their Relationship
During episode 153 of theMy Hero Academiaanime adaptation, the fight between Toga, Ochako, and Tsuyu can be seen. The heroes were trying desperately to prevent Himiko from drinking Twice’s blood, due to the danger of her awakening her late friend’s Quirk and creating an army of villains for All For One to command. After a long and gruesome encounter, Uraraka and Tsuyu fail on their mission, as Kurogiri, also known as the late Shirakumo, opens a portal that not only gives Toga enough time to drink the vial but also allows her to escape.
Seeing the villain go through the mist, Ochako screamed at Himiko that they had still not talked about romance like the villain wanted. Toga, saddened, replied to Uraraka that she wished they could have discussed those topics as friends, before disappearing. This moment was taken directly from chapter 375 of the manga series. Yet,the anime added a small but significant changethat made this scene even more devastating to witness. In the manga, Toga’s last words before disappearing are never explicitly stated to have been heard by Uraraka.

The dialog is shown on top of a black background, which implies that Himiko never got to tell Uravity her true feelings. The anime made it clear that Toga not only spoke directly to Ochako but that she was looking into her eyes as she uttered her unfulfilled desire. Uraraka is now confirmed to have known that Himiko still wished to be accepted and have a friend who she could be herself with. This small change may not mean much for now, but it completely changes the upcoming fight between Uravity and Toga that will soon take place.
Uraraka Wanted To Help Toga Heal
The Villain’s Words May Have Been What Pushed Her To Go So Far For Himiko
Warning: SPOILERS ahead for future episodes of My Hero AcademiaFor many years, Toga wandered the streets of Japan looking for someone who would understand her and not treat her like a monster. When she met Ochako during the Forest Training Camp, she believed that she had found someone like her, a person with a lot of love to share. This belief was destroyed once Uraraka treated Toga as a simple villain who needed to be defeated when they encountered each other duringthe cruel and deadly Paranormal Liberation War arc. Himiko becomes less cheerful, abandoning her desire to be accepted and instead focusing on bringing Hero Society down.
Uraraka soon after realized her mistake and promised herself to become the person who would accept Toga, which is why she wanted to grant her request to speak about love and romance in episode 153. Hearing Toga say that she still held the same hope to become Uravity’s friend may be what pushed Ochako to try so hard to save the villain. This would explain why Uraraka went as far as to almost die from blood loss just to make Toga realize her worth as a person and stop seeing herself as a monster.

Nonetheless, the most significant difference this small change between the anime and manga brings isthe significance of Himiko’s redemption and sacrifice. Once she felt seen and accepted by Ochako, the villain decided to risk her life by giving the hero most of her blood. This led to her demise once the Final War arc was over, which greatly affected Uraraka. The guilt felt by Ochako after Himiko sacrificed herself becomes even more devastating, as she knows how much Toga longed to be accepted, and she died soon after finding a person who did not judge her.
Despite how trivial the difference between theMy Hero Academiaanime and manga versions ofOchako and Toga’s conversationmay seem, it does alter the significance of their future actions. These alterations could help audiences empathize and connect more with Himiko and Uravity during their upcoming devastating and emotive confrontation.
