Warning: Contains spoilers forAll-New Venom #1!
The mystery of the All-NewVenomhas officially kicked off in Marvel Comics, and I’m pretty sure there’s a shocking suspect hiding in plain sight. There are four characters strongly teased as the symbiote’s potential new host, but Mary Jane Watson’s introduction in the seriesmakes me suspicious. The more I read into it, the more I’m convinced that Marvel may have been intentionally misleading when teasing Venom’s latest bond.
The main story ofAll-New Venom#1 – written by Al Ewing, with art by Carlos Gómez - features the first appearance ofthe new golden iteration of the symbiote herowith its still-unknown human host, setting up all the supposed options in the surrounding scenes. However,I think there are clues dropped in the issue’s epilogue that point to Mary Jane as an unexpected suspect.

As MJ comes home to her partner Paul after an alleged day of crime-fighting as Jackpot and tries tododge talking about symbiotes, I have a feeling we’re supposed to question the iconic character’s true whereabouts.
I’m Convinced Mary Jane As “The Sidekick” is All-New Venom’s Secret Fifth Suspect

She isn’t one of the characters Marvel laid out as one of the suspected hosts for Venom’s new era, but I thinkthere’s a real chance that Mary Jane Watson is actuallyunderneath the symbiote’s updated gold look. When teasing the four possible hosts in a synopsis forAll-New Venom, Marvel gave each option a label: the mayor, the journalist, the sidekick, or the terrorist. Though the sidekick label is clearly meant for one of the series’ most likely suspects, Rick Jones, it’s certainly notable that MJ is also billed as “the sidekick” when she first appears in the epilogue.
“The All New Venom”: Venom Debuts New Design & Powers as Marvel Reinvents Its Iconic Symbiote (In Main Continuity)
Marvel has announced a new Venom, revamping the iconic antihero. A new host is claiming the symbiote, leading to a new look and fresh powers.
Since Mary Jane and her reluctant partner are revealed to have taken Dylan Brock inafter the events ofVenom War, it seems to me that there may be more to her sudden connection to Venom’s son than she’s letting on. With Dylan suddenly alone and still reeling from the fallout of the major symbiote crossover event, MJ feels the need to protect the traumatized boy. This isn’t surprising since MJ is already a very empathetic character and a superhero in her own right, but perhaps she feels a stronger urge to protect Dylan because she’s currently bonded with Venom.

From Jackpot To Venom: Mary Jane’s New Marvel Comics Role Would Be A Shocking And Exciting Twist
Mary Jane’sVenom WarExperience May Have Totally Reshaped Her Future
Though Mary Jane has been around since the 1960s as a supporting character in Spider-Man comics, and one ofPeter Parker’s most legendary love interests, it wasn’t until 2023 that she officially became a full-fledged superhero in Marvel canon.Mary Jane has leveled up as the superhero Jackpot, with a special bracelet that gives her random superpowers based on the luck of the device’s slot machine-like function. However, maybe this costumed identity was just one step in her superhero evolution, asher latest scene has me wondering if Jackpot’s luck has led her to ditch the bracelet and become the All-New Venom.
Mary Jane Watson Is Marvel’s New Venom In Shocking Transformation
Mary Jane and Spider-Man have one of the greatest relationships in comics, but this relationship is coming under strain as Mary Jane becomes Venom.
Mary Jane’s potential bond with Venom would be far from her first symbiote experience, especially sinceshe battled and was consumed by the Arachniotein the 4-issueVenom War: Spider-Mantie-in. The miniseries saw Jackpot fighting alongside Peter Parker while he’s re-bonded with Venom, and the featured dynamic between Mary Jane and the symbiote is definitely worth exploring further. They’re able to work together even though MJ is understandably hesitant to trust the alien, and the symbiote also begins to truly understand Peter’s love for her, making her chances as the new host not as random as it may seem.

The Unraveling Mystery Of All-New Venom Is Keeping Me On The Edge of My Seat
Is Mary Jane As Venom A Real Possibility, Or A Red-Haired Red Herring?
Every reader will have their theories on the identity of the symbiote’s next host before they’re officially revealed, and the central mystery inAll-New Venomis fun to make guesses and speculate about. Though I think the publisher isn’t being entirely forthcoming about all the proposed suspects, it’s nice to not knowwho Marvel’s latest version of Venom isas they make their debut, and the whodunnit aspect makes for an exciting read.WhileAll-New Venom#1 has me convinced that MJ could be the new host, Ewing and Gómez’s story could totally change my mindby the next issue.
As Venom enters a new “golden era,” Marvel might have just hit the jackpot by making Mary Jane Watson the symbiote’s secret host.

Marvel’s official prospects for the next hostconsist of Luke Cage, Madame Masque, Robbie Robertson, and Rick Jones, and a bond with any of these established characters would be a fascinating direction for Venom to go in. However, I can’t help but think that the mystery may not have as obvious an answer as is being teased in the debut issue, and the supposed suspect list narrowing down the potential options could be a major misdirect. AsVenomenters a new “golden era,” Marvel might have just hit the jackpot by making Mary Jane Watson the symbiote’s secret host.
All-New Venom#1is available now from Marvel Comics.

Venom is a symbiotic alien entity bonded with various human hosts, notably Eddie Brock and later Flash Thompson. It grants superhuman strength, agility, and a shape-shifting black costume. Initially a Spider-Man villain due to its origins, Venom evolved into an antihero, battling both villains and his own dark impulses.
