Magic: The Gatheringreturns with the re-introduction of the Innistrad expansion withInnistrad Remastered. This gothic-themed set takes players through the world of Innistrad, resurrecting favorites like Sorin, Emrakul, the Promised End, and Liliana of the Veil. Innistrad is full of spooky treats that will delight new and veteran players alike.

The originalInnistradexpansion was originally released on September 30th, 2011, and featured 264 total cards. Among them were cards like Blasphemous Act, Delver of Secrets, and Snapcaster Mage, which was the final Magic Invitational prize card ever released. As one of the most highly-regarded expansions inMagichistory, it’s no wonder Wizards of the Coast is finally bringing it back.

Only A Few Weeks To Wait, Keep An Eye Out

According to the officialInnistrad Remasteredpage onMTG’s website, the expansion will be released on January 25th, 2025. With January on the horizon, that means there are only a couple of short weeks until this set will hit the shelves. The sets include primarily Blue and Black cards, although each color will have a few cards represented in this release.

Magic: The Gathering’s 10 Coolest Collaboration Sets

Magic: The Gathering’s universes beyond collaborations have been a huge success, but not every series is given the same quality treatment as the rest.

Innistrad Remasteredis just one of the manycurrently confirmedMTGreleases for 2025. There are six more sets currently comfirmed, but details about the sets are hard to come by. So far, there are three premier sets confirmed to debut:Aetherdrift,Tarkir: Dragonstorm, andEdge of Eternities.Additionally, WOTC is collaborating on two further sets this year:aFinal Fantasyset andMarvel’s Spider-Manset.Not much is known yet about these sets, but it’s likely that more will be revealed closer to their releases.

This close to the release date, many of the official cards forInnistradhave been announced in various places. Notably, this release will include Retro Frame, Classic, Borderless, Movie Poster, and new “Headliner cards.” Headliner cards are the chase cards for a given set, and are also sometimes serialized.

With 264 Cards Total, 57 Have Been Confirmed

The currently confirmed cards are listed onMTG’s websitewhere they can be searched by color, treatment, type, subtype, rarity, and set. The confirmed cards, sorted by color, are as follows:

Liliana of the Veil

Huntmaster of the Fells

Full Art, Traditional Foil

Among the 57 currently confirmed cards for theInnistrad Remasteredexpansion are some pretty unique cards, but none so unique as the Serialized Showcase version of Edgar Markov.Edgar Markov is the set’s “headliner” card, and this is the very first time that this card has been available in booster packs in the franchise’s history. This ancient vampire is available in four prints, ranging from the incredible Double Rainbow Foil of the Showcase version to the still-impressive art of the Default/Traditional Foil print.

The Serialized Edgar Markov cards can only be pulled from the English versions ofInnistrad RemasteredCollector Booster packs.

The Serialized/Double Rainbow/Showcase version of Edgar Markov will only have 500 copies printed, so for collectors, this is the card to seek. While mechanically, this version of the vampire lord works the same as any other copy, the bloody delightful art of the special edition makes it a treasure to pull. Find a copy of this card in the Collector Booster packs.

Edgar Markov isn’t the only card getting the movie poster treatment in this expansion either; he’s joined by The Meathook Massacre and Emrakul, the Promised End in getting a campy, gory redesign that will make any horror lover happy. All three cards feature full-card designs stylized like 80’s slasher film posters. With enough luck, or money, you’ll have the best of both worlds with these three beautiful and powerful cards.

Following The Usual Pattern: Play Boosters and Collector Boosters

AsInnistrad Remasteredis considered a small-scale release, there are no Bundles, Gift Bundles, or Commander Precons, or Pre-Release Kits available for purchase.Instead, players will be able to get these cards solely through booster packs. There are two types of boosters, and each contains a slightly different chance of getting certain cards.

Despite the lack of Prerelease sets, players can still participate in Premium Preview Events at limited locations to receive benefits like a Particiaption Promo version of the Deadeye Navigator card. Check local retailers, card, and game stores to see if there are any Preview Events nearby.

Like theMTG: Foundationsrelease,Innistradwill be released through Play Boosters and Collector Booster packs. UnlikeFoundations, players won’t be able to pick up the Beginner’s Box that was released, as this seems to beFoundationsexclusive. The MSRP for a Play booster is $6.99, while the Collector Boosters run for a pricier $29.99.

The two types of booster packs hold different card types. The more expensive Collector Boosters can contain rarer cards, while the cheaper play boosters are more supplementary for players who don’t want to spend too much money. Here is what each booster type will contain according to theofficialWOTCrelease:

With no determined drops in the mix, players who are hunting for the more elusive cards in this drop will just have to hold onto hope and buy the right boosters in order to grab them. As usual, many of the cards in this set will hit the marketplace as soon as they drop, soplayers that are willing to spend a bit more money can cut down on the hassle by buying the cards they’re looking for outright. For those that are a bit more limited in terms of budget, it will take extreme luck or quite a bit of time to grab the pricier cards.

If themost expensive cards fromFoundationsare anything to go by, the pricier cards from theInnistradrelease may very well go up into the hundreds, particularly for the limited-print versions.
