A newLEGOboard game is coming, continuing a collaboration between the popular toymaker and the biggest board game maker in the world. Every year, LEGO dazzles fans young and old with sets that range from classic cars and buildings to complicated models pulled from the biggest franchises in the world. Last year, LEGO also announced that it was re-entering the tabletop game field, partnering with board game giant Asmodee. The first game released as part of this collaboration wasLEGO: Monkey Palace, which featured players collectively building a palace for monkeys and earning points for meeting certain goals.

As shared on the officialAsmodeewebsite, Asmodee and LEGO have announced a new tabletop board game calledBrick Like This!,which will be officially released later this year. The game is described as a fun family party gamewhere teams race to finish a LEGO model. One teammate describes the model while the other attempts to build it. No other details were provided about how many LEGO pieces will be available in the core set.

LEGO: Brick Like This Is A Fast-Talking Party Experience

Game Involves Trying To Explain A Model While Partner Tries To Build

LEGO: Brick Like This!appears to be a reimplementation ofBrick Party, a 2015 game designed by Luca Bellini. Asmodee and LEGO note that the new game is a “fresh take” on the game system, which combines communication and LEGO building for a fun experience. The game is designed to be easy to learn and can be played with all kinds of players. More details should be available later this month when the game is officially unveiled at the London Toy Fair and Nuremberg Toy Fair.

One difference between the new crop of LEGO games and previous versions is the emphasis on building. Previous board games developed by LEGO used LEGO pieces as the game board and pieces, whileLEGO: Brick Like This!(andLEGO: Monkey Palace) emphasize the creativity and building aspects of the franchise. It’s also interesting to see Asmodee take its LEGO collaboration and push it towards party gamesand more casual play rather thangames directed at specific segmentsof LEGO fans.

Our Take: LEGO’s New Board Game Could be Fun

Not The LEGO Collaboration We Expected, But One That Could Still Work

Personally, I’m not afan of party games, butI know plenty of people who would pick up a LEGO game in a heartbeat. Also, the idea of trying to use LEGO bricks to do a blind build of sorts seems like it would be a lot of fun, especially when paired with either skilled builders or very unskilled builders. Asmodee’s collaboration with LEGO isn’t what I anticipated (as I would have rather them lean into one ofLEGO’s many franchises), but it seems to be highly successful so far and appeals to a much wider audience than hardcore gamers orLEGObuilders.
