Summary

Jurassic World 4was confirmed in January 2024, so dinosaur fans can hope for the on-screen appearance of some of the underutilized dinosaurs from previousJurassic Parkmovies. With fan favorites ranging from the gentlest herbivore to the scariest carnivore, the creatures of this franchise were destined to make a mark on the minds of many. Universal Pictures' high-budget spectacleJurassic Parkstarted off a new public adoration for dinosaurs, which was continued by the recentJurassic Worldmovies, so it stands to reason that the franchise could bring back some of its old creations.

With Scarlett Johansson set to star inthe newJurassic World 4movie, bigger, better versions of dinosaurs could be in develoment. And with so many dinosaurs in the running to become the new face ofJurassic World, it’s hard to tell which ones will make the cut, which ones will play leading roles, and which will sit in the background. But there are numerous beasts from the original trilogy,Jurassic World,Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, andJurassic World Dominionthat had only minor screen time, making them perfect inclusions for the new movie.

Jurassic World featured a brief but hilarious from Margaritaville owner Jimmy Buffett. Find out where you may spot his apt appearance.

10Corythosaurus

Jurassic Park III (2001)

Appearing for a few brief moments inJurassic Park III, Corythosaurus was a gentle dinosaur that could serve a pleasant narrative purpose inJurassic World 4. First seen running away from attacking raptors, this genus was a herbivore that used small interlocking teeth at the back of its jaw to grind plant matter down before swallowing it.Corythosaurus could appear as one of the less threatening animalsin Jurassic World 4.

Jurassic World 4is set for release on July 14, 2025.

Although Corythosaurus was only seen fleetingly during a stampede inJurassic Park III,it offered an intriguing look at late cretaceous herbivores. This dinosaur’s long snout recalled many duck-billed dinosaurs, with both sharing a similar dental arrangement. However, the bony crest on its head was Corythosaurus' real identifying feature, making it a memorable genus to include in a dinosaur movie.

Jurassic Park 3

Cast

Jurassic Park III is a 2001 science fiction action film directed by Joe Johnston. It follows Dr. Alan Grant, played by Sam Neill, who joins Paul and Amanda Kirby on an aerial tour of Isla Sorna. They face unexpected peril as they encounter more dangerous dinosaurs on the island.

9Oviraptor

Jurassic World Dominion (2022)

Oviraptor represented an updated perspective on dinosaur design for theJurassic Parkfranchise, and its brief appearance marked it out as a great candidate for a bigger role in future movies. Its name referred to its penchant for eggs, meaning “egg snatcher,” but it is now thought that this dinosaur had a far wider diet. Regardless, including a feathered dinosaur wasJurassic Park’sway of saying that it was keeping upwith contemporary ideas about dinosaurs.

The oviraptor was shown inJurassic World Dominionin a flashback, stealing an egg, proving the amusing potential of this cunning creature. The oviraptor was also made to fight in the Maltese black market scene, where it demonstrated the terrifying propensity to run around without a head after being decapitated. All said and done,Oviraptor would make a great star inJurassic World 4.

Jurassic World Dominion

Jurassic World Dominion: Set four years after the destruction of Isla Nublar, dinosaurs coexist with humans globally. This tense coexistence challenges humanity’s status as apex predators, forcing a reevaluation of futures as both species navigate the complexities of a shared world.

8Mamenchisaurus

The Lost World: Jurassic Park (1997)

Mamenchisaurus was one of the slow, graceful herbivores ofThe Lost World: Jurassic Park, but unfortunately, it only got a few seconds' worth of screen time in this sequel toJurassic Park. The CGImodeling for Mamenchisaurus was actually based on the Brachiosaurusof the first movie. Both Mamenchisaurus and Brachiosaurus had long necks which enabled them to reach leaves high up on trees.

The slow-moving elegance of the Mamenchisaurus could make for a breathtaking momentinJurassic World 4.This dinosaur could recreate, in the upcoming movie, one of cinema’s most magical moments of all time. This was, of course, the moment the audience and park visitors alike glimpsedJurassic Park’sfirst dinosaur, the giant Brachiosaurus.

The Lost World: Jurassic Park

The Lost World: Jurassic Park, directed by Steven Spielberg, follows Ian Malcolm as he joins an expedition to document dinosaurs on a remote island where they’ve been secretly bred by John Hammond. Set four years after the events in Jurassic Park, this action thriller explores the challenges of observing these prehistoric creatures.

7Microceratus

This ceratopsian dinosaur was a feature of the Malta black market scene inJurassic World Dominion, but deserves a place inthe upcomingJurassic Worldmovie. Only featuring minorly inJurassic World Dominion,Microceratus was one of the dinosaurs being held and auctioned. After the market was raided, the fate of Microceratus was uncertain.

This primes Microceratus for inclusion in anotherJurassic Parkmovie, as that would guarantee closure on its story. This late cretaceous dinosaur may have lived in Asia and used to walk on two legs. There was a healthy dose of Microceratus living in trees in Michael Crichton’sJurassic Parknovel. This small but nimble creature is more than ready for a bigger roleinJurassic Park.

Glen Powell’s Jurassic World 4 Rejection Is Confusing Since He’s Already In The Franchise

Glen Powell has reportedly rejected a role in the upcoming sequel Jurassic World 4, which is surprising considering he already is in the franchise.

6Allosaurus

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (2018)

Allosaurus is definitely one of thedinosaurs that should return forJurassic World 4, having only appeared briefly in the franchise thus far.Allosaurus has had cameos in variousJurassic Parkmovies, but this large theropod dinosaur deserves far more screen time. Allosaurus was running away from a volcanic eruption inJurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, before being struck and collapsing, but others survived.

The dinosaur’s role inJurassic World Dominionwas a bit more pronounced. However, its carnivorous tendencies mark it out as one to return, promising danger and drama. Allosaurus starred inBattle of Big Rocktoo, which was a shortJurassic Parkmovie released in 2019, butit is time for this dinosaur’s starring role in a feature-length movie.

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom

Set three years after Jurassic World’s destruction, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom follows Owen and Claire as they embark on a mission to rescue Isla Nublar’s remaining dinosaurs from an imminent volcanic eruption threatening their existence.

5Stygimoloch

This dinosaur was held in a black market auction duringJurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, and its return to the big screen would be welcome.Stygimoloch was one of the most unique-looking dinosaursof the movie but only had a woefully short sequence.Jurassic World 4should explore this fascinating animal with spikes surrounding its dome-shaped head.

This dinosaur would use the structure on the top of its head for defense and was thought to be a herbivore about 3 meters in length. This dinosaur has recently been questioned by the scientific community- it may be a juvenile Pachycephalosaurus, rather than its own genus. The limited understanding of this dinosaur and its lack of screen time so far make it an intriguing subject forJurassic World.

4Dilophosaurus

Jurassic Park (1993)

The unforgettable Dilophosaurus was an indisputable highlight of the franchise’s first ever movie,Jurassic Park. This theropod from the early Jurassic made another appearance inJurassic World Dominion. However,no amount of cameos from this franchise standout has ever been enough, and its brief appearances should be supplemented by some screen time inJurassic World 4.

Its ability to spit venom and erect a colorful frill around its neck were completely fictional.

Microceratus in Jurassic Park.

Memorably shooting poison into Dennis Nedry’s face inJurassic Park, this monstrous beast was easily one of the scariest charactersof the original 1993 movie. It also appeared briefly as a hologram inJurassic World. Despite the movie magic presented by this beast, its ability to spit venom and erect a colorful frill around its neck were completely fictional. This drama is exactly what makes it ideal forJurassic World 4.

Jurassic Park

Jurassic Park is a science fiction adventure film directed by Steven Spielberg, based on Michael Crichton’s novel. Released in 1993, it follows a wealthy entrepreneur who creates a theme park with living dinosaurs. When security systems fail, experts and visitors experience the perilous reality of the park.

3Ankylosaurus

Jurassic World (2015)

This is one of the best dinosaurs oftheJurassic Parkfranchise, offering a herbivore with some serious clout. This dinosaur was more than a match for the fictional Indominus RexofJurassic World, although it inevitably lost its fight with the movie’s scariest titan. Ankylosaurus had fearsome plates of armor surrounding its torso, making it hard to kill.

Ankylosaurus was built like a tankand had a tail that it would weaponize as a club. This late cretaceous dinosaur had a satisfying run-in with the Indominus Rex, but its role was too short. It could feature as one of the more dangerous herbivores ofJurassic World 4,providing a good balance and demonstrating the incredible variety of prehistoric creatures.

Jurassic World

Jurassic World is a 2015 science fiction adventure film directed by Colin Trevorrow. Set 22 years after Jurassic Park, it introduces audiences to a fully operational dinosaur theme park on Isla Nublar. The narrative explores the consequences of genetic engineering as a hybrid dinosaur creation turns dangerous.

2Iguanodon

TheJurassic World Dominionmovierevealed the brilliant Iguanodon, but only for a few brief seconds each time. Starring in a few different scenes throughout the movie, theIguanodon was silhouetted against dark skiesand burning trees in various clips. However, it never received the star treatment it deserved.

It would still appear fresh and new in the franchise and create a foil for the more aggressive dinosaurs that are sure to be on display.

This means thatIguanodon is the perfect dinosaur forJurassic World 4. With a relatively blank slate, the upcoming movie can give this fan-favorite herbivore more major scenes than it has ever received before. It would still appear fresh and new in the franchise and create a foil for the more aggressive dinosaurs that are sure to be on display.

3 Reasons Scarlett Johansson is the Perfect Lead For Jurassic World 4

The dinosaurs might be extinct but this franchise isn’t. And now, the Jurassic World movies have a new face: Scarlett Johansson.

1Ceratosaurus

The Ceratosaurus was one of the most awesome dinosaurs inJurassic Park IIIbut only had a few seconds of screen time. The carnivore was named for its horn, residing on its snout in a threatening display of power.Ceratosaurus looked dangerous, but the protagonists ofJurassic Park IIIavoided its wrath by covering themselves in feces to avoid detection.

This pink-tinged carnivore definitely deserves screen timein the upcomingJurassic World 4movie. The giant, horned lizard looks more like a dragon than many other dinosaurs of the Late Jurassic, and it would go down a treat with fantasy-loving cinema-goers. This would make up for its incredibly brief time in the limelight inJurassic Park III.
