Kohei Horikoshi and Gege Akutami have been good friends for a long time. From drawing tributes to each other,going to see theNeon Genesis Evangelionmovie together, to holding joint interviews, the stars of the magazine got along very well and inspired each other to do better. This isn’t the first time, though, that Akutami has expressed his love forMy Hero Academia, as he has made it very clear how much the series changed him.

In an interview with French publisher Ki-oon (shared and translated by@Douceanco on X), Akutami stated that when series likeBleachandNarutocame to an end,he was worried about the future ofShonen Jumpand subsequently his future as a mangaka. His hope was rekindled whenMy Hero Academiastarted serializing, showing the same energy as the successful series of the past.
