Jujutsu Kaisenexcels in so many areas, including its anime adaptation’s groundbreaking animation by MAPPA, its relatable, dynamic characters that grow and change over time, and its intense battle sequences that show off the best jujutsu sorcery has to offer. Not every aspect ofJujutsu Kaisenis without flaws though, and like anything, there are parts of the story that could have potentially been improved or changed for the better.

Jujutsu Kaisen’smanga ended in 271 chapters, but even that whopping amount was not enough to wrap up every plot point or give every character in the story a fulfilling arc. The series may be award-winning, but it is also extremely detailed and complex, andsome aspects that could have used more development unfortunately fell through the cracks.

8Gojo and Geto Never Reconciled

Geto Turned to Evil, and The Friendship Between the Pair Was Irreversibly Damaged

One of the most sorrowful parts ofJujutsu Kaisenis the fact thatGojo Satoru and Geto Sugurunever quite managed to restore their previously close friendship. They both attended Jujutsu High and trained to become sorcerers together, with a shared dream of saving humanity from the violence of cursed spirits. Their paths diverged dramatically though, because Geto chose evil means to accomplish this goal, while Gojo stayed a sorcerer, in direct opposition to Geto.

Geto and Gojo did spend Geto’s final moments together, in one tragic sequence in which Geto asked Gojo to, “at least curse me a little in the end,” before dying. After this scene, Geto’s body was overtaken and used as a vessel by Kenjaku, eliminating any chance of Gojo and Geto ever reconcilingor finding any sort of common ground again. Their friendship was one of the most touching inJujutsu Kaisen, but sadly, it died along with Geto andfans never got the heartfelt reunion they were hoping for.

7Maki Killing Her Clan Was Rushed

Such a Significant Occurrence as the Murder of a Whole Clan Should Have Been Given More Attention

OneJujutsu Kaisenmoment that deserved more attention wasMaki Zenin’s drastic action of killing the entire Zenin clan. The Zenin clan was an oppressive, cruel place to grow up that had negative effects on both Maki and her twin sister, Mai. Since Maki was born with no cursed energy, she had an even more difficult experience, and this caused her resentment towards her clan to fester within her. The Zenin clan murdering her sister Mai was the final straw, and led Maki to go on a killing spree, annihilating every member of the clan.

Jujutsu Kaisen’s Maki Revealed the Franchise’s OTHER Source of Power

In Jujutsu Kaisen, Maki sets out to find her own path to happiness. In the process, she disrupts what it means to be powerful within the franchise.

This slaughter was a significant part ofJujutsu Kaisenthat signified Maki’s physical growth, as well as displaying her undying rage towards her own clan and the members' cruelty. However, despite this being such an important plot point, the entire occurrence was moved past quickly and not really acknowledged after it took place.Such a major event as the murder of an entire clan surprisingly did not have many long-lasting repercussions for Maki or other characters, and adding more emphasis on this event would have fit well in the story.

6Gojo’s Return From the Prison Realm

Gojo Rejoining Jujutsu Kaisen Was a Joyous, But Way Too Rushed Moment

WhenGojo Satoru made it back from the Prison RealmKenjaku sealed him in, fans were absolutely elated, becauseJujutsu Kaisenwas just not the same without the strongest sorcerer at the forefront of battles. Although it was a reassurance to have Gojo back, not all fans were satisfied with how his return was handled.AfterGojo escaped the Prison Realm, the story barely acknowledged this major moment and continued to move at a breakneck pace with more fights quickly occurring.

Although the characters were involved in a major war against Sukuna and did not have much time to celebrate Gojo’s return or interact with each other outside of battle settings,it did feel jarring for Gojo to come back and then immediately be launched into battle with Sukuna againwith little fanfare or downtime. One of the most pressing complaintsJujutsu Kaisenreceives is about its pacing, and this is one area in which a slower, more relaxed pace would have served the story well.

5Very Little Time Spent at Jujutsu High

Jujutsu High is a Major Part of the Students' Development, But it is Rarely Shown in Jujutsu Kaisen

Jujutsu KaisenandMy Hero Academiaactually both suffer from a similar issue:neither story devotes enough time to showing its characters within a school setting.Jujutsu High is a major part of each jujutsu sorcerers' journey, shaping them into fighters who are able to handle battling cursed spirits like Sukuna. Despite the school’s tremendous influence on every character, very few arcs take place at Jujutsu High.

At Last, I Have Figured Out the One Thing Holding Jujutsu Kaisen Back

Jujutsu Kaisen is held back by is its lack of world-building about the sorcerers, cursed energy, and much more.

Apart from the Kyoto Sister-School Goodwill Event, most of the pivotal events inJujutsu Kaisentake place far away from the high school, which is somewhat understandable, since the war between cursed spirits and humanity rages on outside the school’s walls. However, more down-to-earth, slice-of-life scenes within Jujutsu High would only have benefited the story’s pacingand given fans time to process the series' many battles, as well as reveal what the students went through to become such experienced sorcerers.

4Nanami’s Sudden Demise

As Beloved of a Character as Nanami Is, His Final Moments Deserved More Attention

Nanami Kento’s death inJujutsu Kaisenis largely considered one of the most distressing moments in the entire series, because it was so unanticipated and out of nowhere. Mahito dealt a death blow almost instantaneously, before anyone could retaliate. Although Nanami’s sacrifice did motivate Yuji to eventually defeat Mahito himself, the older sorcerer’s final moments did feel hurried.

10 Most Brutal Jujutsu Kaisen Deaths

Jujutsu Kaisen has featured a lot of very devastating deaths over the course of the series, but these ten are the most brutal the manga has featured.

The final sequence of Nanami’s life, with his internal fantasy of a Malaysian beach juxtaposed with his death scene in real life, was haunting but meaningful, providing a worthy sendoff for the beloved character. Since Nanami’s death occurred in the midst of a war,his fellow sorcerers had little time to mourn or react to his death, and for a character as admirable as Nanami, his death deserved not to be passed over so quickly.

3Yuki Tsukumo is Underutilized in the Story

Despite Her Status as a Special Grade Sorcerer, Yuki Is Largely Absent From Jujutsu Kaisen

One issue withJujutsu Kaisenis the fact that female characters are too often underutilized or forgottenabout among the series' cast of hundreds of heroes and villains.Yuki Tsukumo is one of the most prominent examples, because although she is very interesting and a powerful special grade sorcerer, she died quickly and was left out of many majorJujutsu Kaisenarcs.

Yuki Tsukumo is strongand largely prefers to fight alone, but her Reverse Cursed Technique, Innate Technique, Star Rage, and Shikigami, Garuda, are strong enough to help her defeat villains without any additional help. Yuki and Kenjaku’s final fight was an epic clash, displaying both of the high-level fighters' skills, but Yuki sadly did not survive. It is a shame that this is one of Yuki’s only battles inJujutsu Kaisen, because her extensive repertoire of talents and vibrant personality should have earned her a more significant role in the story.

2Gojo’s Death

Gojo’s Demise Felt Ill-Timed and Sudden, Ending the Strongest Sorcerer’s Arc in a Very Unsatisfying Way

Gojo’s death was extremely controversialand rocked the anime fandom to its core, sparking passionate discourse and memes surrounding the events ofJujutsu Kaisenmanga chapter #236. During Gojo’s last battle with Ryomen Sukuna, the King of Curses cleaved Gojo in two, defeating the strongest sorcerer with finality, much to the horror of fans.

The main issue is not necessarily that Gojo died, but the circumstances of his death. He was killed suddenly with no warning, and although Sukuna’s ability to kill the mightiest jujutsu sorcerer made him an even greater threat, solidified his role as the ultimate villain of the story, and gave the other characters another person to avenge, the death did not feel like the right send-off for a character as treasured as Gojo Satoru.

1Tsumiki Fushiguro’s Character Arc

Tsumiki’s Appearances in Jujutsu Kaisen Are Sparse, Making Her Feel Like a Plot Device

Megumi’s step-sister Tsumiki Fushiguromattered deeply to him, buther role in the story unfortunately did not reflect her importance very effectively. Her appearances are very few and far between, and she and Megumi interact sparingly. As a non-sorcerer, she understandably did not contribute to the series' battles, but more of her communication with Megumi or memories of the step-siblings together could have been shown.

Jujutsu Kaisen’s Real Hero Was Staring Fans In The Face The Whole Time, & It’s Not Yuji, Gojo, Or Yuta

Jujutsu Kaisen’s ideal protagonist has much more relatable connections to the series' plot points than anyone else.

Although Megumi does express love for Tsumiki, his relationship with his step-sister would feel even more genuine and developed had the story included more flashbacks of the pair or scenes of them spending time together. Sadly, Tsumiki became a pawn in the fight, being used as a vessel by Yorozu.Tsumiki died when Sukuna defeatedand killed Yorozu, whichmade Tsumiki feel more like a plot device meant to contribute to Megumi’s character arcand motivation to fight rather than a fully fleshed-out character on her own.
