While Jonathan’s note to Sienna inTerrifier 3is barely even glimpsed, this letter offers a lot of cryptic insight into the story of the series. TheTerrifiermovies have never been overly concerned with crafting a coherent, consistent fictional universe, and 2024’s hit sequelTerrifier 3is no different.Terrifier 3’s brutal killstake up a lot more screen time than the slasher sequel’s explanations of Art the Clown and his new demonic accomplice Vicky, most likely because director Damian Leone knows that these audaciously gory set-pieces are what keep viewers coming back to the series.

Terrifier 4 - How Will The Final Movie Resolve That Cliffhanger

Terrifier 4: How Will The “Final” Movie Resolve That Cliffhanger?

The ending of Terrifier 3 featured a literal and metaphorical cliffhanger, leaving the door open for Terrifier 4 to resolve the ongoing narrative.

That said, this doesn’t mean that theTerrifiermovies don’t make sense. Rather, it means that viewers need to read between the lines if they want to keep up with the lore of the franchise. FromTerrifier 3’s controversial opening sceneonward, the sequel is primarily focused on keeping the audience horrified and disgusted by Art the Clown’s depraved crime spree. However, a few flashbacks to Sienna’s childhood offer hints at her destiny, and a note Jonathan wrote to his sister before the sequel begins gives further insight. Sienna reads this note midway throughTerrifier 3.

What Jonathan’s Note To Sienna Says

Jonathan’s Note To Sienna Warns Her Of Art the Clown

Jonathan’sTerrifier 3note to Sienna reads “Sienna, we have to destroy the little girl before it’s too late. Destroy her because she’s inhuman… A DEMON. Sometimes demons attempt to break into our world only they can’t do it alone, they have to choose a vessel, someone recently deceased who functions as a bridge between worlds. But not just anyone— someone sinister, depraved— the worst kind of evil, like a serial killer. If a demon enters this world in the flesh, a counterpart must be appointed to stop it from becoming too powerful. It’s you, Sienna. As long as you’re alive, they’re vulnerable.”

Most of Jonathan’s note centers on a supporting villain fromTerrifier 2, but theLittle Pale Girl doesn’t appear inTerrifier 3. This is because her demonic spirit possesses Vicky at the end ofTerrifier 2, forcingTerrifier’s unhinged survivor to give birth to Art the Clown’s head. ThroughoutTerrifier 3, Vicky acts as Art the Clown’s new right-hand woman. Near the end of the movie, after killing her aunt Jess and claiming that she killed Jonathan,Vicky tries to possess Sienna like the Little Pale Girl possessed her. She fails in this attempt, and Jonathan’s note may explain why.

Jonathan Wrote Sienna This Note After Terrifier 2 But Before Terrifier 3

Jonathan wrote this note to Sienna while she was in a mental health facility between movies, meaning she received the letter after the events ofTerrifier 2but beforeTerrifier 3’s story began. This is pivotal information, since it means thatJonathan understands how Art the Clown, Vicky, and the Little Pale Girl functionin a way few characters from the franchise do. This could prove important inTerrifier 4as Sienna attempts to take down Art the Clown and save her cousin Gabbie from Hell. The only problem is that Vicky and Art seemingly killed Jonathan inTerrifier 3.

Fortunately,Terrifier 3’s off-screen Jonathan deathis almost sure to be retconned in the sequel. Vicky claimed that a skull eaten by rats belonged to Jonathan, but she had no proof of the skull’s origins, and her motives were shaky at best. Vicky had already claimed that the same skull belonged to Gabbie when she was torturing Jess, only to reveal that Gabbie was alive and unharmed after she murdered Jess. Vicky also openly admitted she wanted Sienna to lose all hope so she could possess her, meaning she had a reason to lie about the skull’s providence.

Why Jonathan’s Note Is So Important In Terrifier 3

Jonathan’s Note Finally Explains Sienna’s Connection To Art

What makes this scene so important is thatJonathan’s note is the closest that theTerrifierfranchise has come to explaining Art the Clown’s link to Sienna. As a character,Art the Clown’s origins and powersremain shrouded in mystery.Terrifier 3confirms that he is a demon when Vicky’s death opens up a portal to Hell and Art magically escapes and regenerates despite Sienna running him through with a sword. However, exactly how Art gained his powers, whether he was ever human to begin with, and the limitations of his abilities remain unknown. Jonathan’s note provides Sienna with a clue.

According to Jonathan’s note, Art is likely to be a demon that is inhabiting the body of the almost indestructible clown, much like the Little Pale Girl who inhabited Vicky’s body. This would explain why he can’t die, and Jonathan’s belief that Sienna is Art’s angelic counterpart also seems to hold some weight. After all, Sienna survived not one, but two encounters with Art. She weathered brutal injuries and kept fighting him, she defeated Vicky’s attempts to possess her, and she even managed to stab Art’s demonic accomplice despite having two broken hands. Clearly, she has some superhuman powers at her disposal.

What Jonathan’s Note Means For Terrifier 4

Terrifier 4 May Bring Back Jonathan Despite His Off-screen Death

AlthoughArt the Clown’sTerrifier 3accomplice Vickyis seemingly gone for good, viewers shouldn’t count Jonathan out ofTerrifier 4’s story. Even if he did die in the sequel, the fact that Sienna hopes to walk into Hell to bring Gabbie back to safety means she may still be able to save her brother from the afterlife. Moreover, the fact that Sienna’s family seems uniquely linked to Art makes Jonathan’s reappearance all the more likely. Sienna’s late father appears in numerous flashback scenes duringTerrifier 3, drawing a super-powered warrior angel who resembles Sienna’s older self.

Sienna’s father seemingly helped her gain her supernatural resilience when he drew her as an angelic superheroine.

Sienna’s father shared Jonathan’s obsession with Art the Clown, meaning Sienna isn’t the only one in her family who has a mysterious link to the demonic monster. Sienna’s father seemingly helped her gain her supernatural resilience when he drew her as an angelic superheroine, while Jonathan helped Sienna understand Art the Clown’s villainous modus operandi before he struck again. Thus,Terrifier 4is likely to bring these plot strands together when Sienna faces off against the killer again. In the process, the next movie in the series can prove that Jonathan’s note was secretly central toTerrifier 3’s story.
