One of theDC UniverseTV shows finally gets a crucial update from James Gunn as Chapter 1: “Gods and Monsters” starts to kick off. One of the many DC Universe TV shows that was announced in January 2023 wasBooster Gold, which would bring Michael Jon Carter into Gunn’s new reboot. However, while it has been over a year since the reveal, barely any updates onBooster Goldhave emerged, and there is a big reason for that.
During his appearance on theHappy, Sad, Confusedpodcast,Gunn was asked about an update on theBooster GoldTV show that has been in development for over a year, and whether or not there is any truth toEternalsstar Kumail Nanjiani being cast in that role. While Gunn didn’t confirm anything about the casting, the DC Studios co-CEO shared the following about what is going on withBooster Gold, suggesting no casting has taken place because the project isn’t at that point yet:

We’re not quite there yet. The scripts aren’t quite where I want them to be. We’re not going to shoot until I’m happy with the script.
What James Gunn’s Booster Gold Update Means For The TV Show
Even though Gunn’s comments could be considered concerning when looking directly at them, theBooster GoldTV showupdate actually appears to be promising. One issue that cropped up with the DCEU was that Warner Bros. announced arguably too wide a range of projects, with many of them never even going forward and only remaining in development hell. Despite announcing writers and even directors sometimes, it was clear that many of these instalment were just never able to proceed because of a lack of creative vision.
In the case of Booster Gold, the same studio has even tried to make a TV show in the past for SYFY and as a DCEU movie, with both never coming to fruition. With this being the third live-actionBooster Goldproject attempt, DC Studios wants to make sure they are getting everything right before tackling Michael’s mythology in the DC Universe. That is why Gunn’s latestBooster Goldcomments are actually more positive than anything, because it shows the commitment DC Studios has in wanting to perfect their pitch before starting filming and casting.

Our Take On James Gunn’s Booster Gold Update
While time will tell whenBooster Goldwill actually happen, there is already a lot to look forward to withthe DC Universe release slateas other projects are further into their development. If the scripts aren’t even finished at this point, it wouldn’t be shocking if the Nanjiani casting rumors are nothing but rumblings, as they won’t cast the main character until the creative vision is finalized. Hopefully, 2025 will move things along for theBooster Goldseries as he joins the rest of Gunn’sDC Universe.
DC Universe
The DC Universe is one of the biggest comic book franchises and often competes with Marvel. DC Comics started as National Allied Publications, founded by Malcolm Wheeler-Nicholson in 1935. Since then, the franchise has exploded with thousands of comic books, movies, TV shows, and video games. 2013 marked the beginning of the most recent iteration of the superheroes, with Zack Snyder introducing Henry Cavill as Superman. After several movies with mixed reviews, DC underwent a soft reboot under the helm of James Gunn and Peter Safran.
