Warning: Contains spoilers for Dragon Ball Daima episode #18Dragon Ball Daima’s most recent episode #18, “Awakening”, shocked the anime world byreintroducing Super Saiyan 4 into the series' canon timeline. Nearly 30 years after its initial reveal in the divisiveDragon Ball GT,Super Saiyan 4 had long been relegated to non-canon status, after 2013’sDragon Ball Z: Battle of Godssteered the series into theDragon Ball Supertimeline. WithDaima, however, the franchise finally did right by the beloved transformation, and gave countless fans what they’d been waiting years to see.
Dragon Ball Daima’s final battle is officially underway, and the evil ruler of the Demon Realm, Gomah, is giving Earth’s heroes an incredibly difficult time. Thanks to Neva, the legendary elder Namekian, Goku’s potential was seemingly unlockedin a similar way to how Gohan’s and Krillin’s were on Namek, and the Saiyan reached a new pinnacle of power. Gomah is still a threat, however, so it may not be long before Vegeta joins his rival in reaching the new, but familiar form.

Daima’s Official Super Saiyan 4 Designs Give Fans a Closer Look at the Form
The Returning Transformation Is a Modern Take on GT’s Best Form
ThoughDragon Ball GTis a contentious topicwithin the ever-growingDragon Ballfandom, the support for its Super Saiyan 4 transformation is near universal. Fans are sure to be thrilled with its return inDaima, though the form isn’t identical to its previous version. For the most part, the updated look is incredibly similar toGT’s Super Saiyan 4, most notably in the fur, hair shape, outlined eyes, and tail. The major differences come in the colors of the form.
Goku’s Super Saiyan 4 inDaimafeatures red hair, similar to Gogeta’s, as well as a glowing white aura and red pupils. The transformation also seems to have made Goku’s hands and forearms grow, likely in reference to the Giant Ape form of the Saiyans. Both Goku and Vegeta had black hair inGT, with the former’s pupils being yellow, and the prince’s being blue. The differences in the forms aren’t major, but enough to makeDaima’s unique. The updated Super Saiyan 4 was designed by Katsuyoshi Nakatsuru, who was responsible forGT’s original Super Saiyan 4 design.

Daima’s Super Saiyan 4 Opens the Door to Countless Possibilities
Goku May Not Be the Only Character to Achieve Super Saiyan 4 in Daima
Though Goku received quite the power boost with Super Saiyan 4, it still wasn’t enough to defeat Gomah. The series' leading Saiyan is going to need help, and there’s no better candidate to receive a power-up than Vegeta. The anime already did the prince a service by allowing him access to Super Saiyan 3, but his newest form won’t be enough to contribute anything meaningful to the battle.Vegeta deserves to unlock Super Saiyan 4 as well, and it might just be necessary for Earth’s heroes to reign victorious.
Admit It, Dragon Ball’s New Take on Super Saiyan 4 Is the Perfect Blend of GT and Super
Dragon Ball Daima episode #18 finally made Super Saiyan 4 canon, and the new take is a perfect fusion between Dragon Ball GT and Dragon Ball Super.
If Vegeta does achieve Super Saiyan 4, the series has an opportunity to thenintroduce a Super Saiyan 4 fusioninto the canon as well. Gogeta has long held the title of the franchise’s only Super Saiyan 4 fusion, so Vegito may be the right candidate to transform.Dragon Ball Daima’s finale is just around the corner, and fans won’t want to miss any of the Giant Ape powered action ahead.
