Incredibles 3just received a major update about its production.Incredibles 3was already confirmedat D23 in August and comes as the follow-up to the $1.2 billion sequel, which memorably took 14 years to release. Brad Bird will be returning as the director, and while there is not yet word about the cast, Bird is expected to be joined by cast members Craig T. Nelson (Mr. Incredible), Holly Hunter (Elastigirl), and Samuel L. Jackson (Frozone), alongside potential new actors for the younger characters, Violet, Dash, and Jack-Jack.

While speaking at Disney’s D23 Brazil event, Pixar Vice President Jonas Rivera made a surprising announcement about the beloved animated movie. The threequel is not only already in development, butthe screenwriters are hard at work on the script. While Rivera is excited to share more, he kept that as the only major reveal for the convention. The entire family in The Incredibles 3

They’re back! Jack-Jack is back, everybody is back in an all-new adventure – more on this in the future. We are just now starting to write the script and it is so cool. I’m dying, I want to show you more, but we’ll do that later. I know, I know, but you gotta have more to look forward to.

What The Writing Progress Means For Incredibles 3

It Will Still Be Some Time Before The Release

The script announcement does not necessarily determine when the movie will eventually be released, but it does provide some hints. Bird reportedly began working onThe Incredibles 2’s script in April 2015, and the movie was eventually released on June 10, 2025. If a similar pace was set for the threequel,it would mean a release in late 2027 or early 2028. The holiday season in 2027 would likely be preferable, but other movies on the Pixar schedule indicate that the company prefers June releases to capture the summer blockbuster audience. Check out how previousIncrediblesmovies fared in Pixar’s schedule in the chart below:

$632 million

$1.2 billion

Pixar does not currently have anything scheduled in 2027 or 2028, as its current schedule holds places on June 30, 2025 forElio, July 22, 2025 forHoppers, and August 17, 2025 forToy Story 5.The upcoming Pixar scheduleleaves an enormous gap for its superhero franchise, which means that Bird will have ample time to ensure that his movie has the space it needs to achieve perfection.

Our Take On Incredibles 3’s Progress

It does make sense that the movie is only just being written, as it is still early in development. It was only just announced, and Pixar tends to take its time with its releases. After Pixar’s recent record several failures, includingLightyear’s disappointing $226 million take, there is no need to rush another movie in a beloved franchise. The start of writing is excellent news, but it is important for viewers to take a breath and wait for the production to finish. While it will be excellent to seeIncredibles 3, it is best not to rush perfection.
