Summary
Doctor Doomis one of the most terrifying villains in the Marvel Universe, and has proven countless times to be capable of achieving nearly any feat – but one thing that will always be beyond him will be the ability to lift and swingThor’shammer. Doom is a brilliant inventor, buthe will never be worthy of wielding Mjolnir.
A+X#17 – written by Gerry Duggan, with art by David Yardin – featured Doom’s surprising confession that even he knows full well he will never be able to pick up Mjolnir. In fact, this story makes it clear that the idea that Doom considers the possibility of him channeling the power of Asgard’s most sacred weapon so absurd that it allows him to break out of a false reality.

Though without a doubtone of Marvel’s greatest villains, it is precisely for this reason that Doom cannot wield Thor’s hammer.

Doctor Doom CANNOT Lift Mjolnir – And Even He Realizes It’s Impossible

While Doom believes his goals are pure, and that however he reaches them is acceptable, Mjölnir seems to disagree.
InA+X#17, Doctor Doom is trapped in an illusion. It’s in this illusion that he takes down each of the Avengers and the X-Men,including Doom brutally killing Wolverine.Defeating Iron Man, Wolverine, and Hulk, are all incredible feats, especially one after another. However, the one feat that even Doom knows is too unrealistic is his lifting Mjölnir. In this illusion, when Thor tries to attack him, Doomsday simply catches Mjölnir and kills Thor with it. This is when the illusion breaks,as even Doctor Doom realizes that catching Mjölnir just isn’t something he’s capable of doing.

Doom is an incredible characterand has some incredible feats under his belt, but he simply can not lift Mjölnir. While Doom believes his goals are pure, and that however he reaches them is acceptable, Mjölnir seems to disagree. Despite everything Doom has achieved, he simply isn’t found worthy. The only timeDoom actually managed to lift Mjölnirwas inAll-Out Avengers#2, but that was a point where Doom was split in two halves, good and evil. While Doom has done some impressive things, such as being judged pure by the Cat God of Wakanda inDoomwar#3, it’s still not enough.
As One Of Marvel’s Greatest Villains, Doctor Doom Knows He Will Never Be Worthy Of Thor’s Hammer
Not Without Trickery
It’s no surprise that he’d eventually be able to find a loophole or two, but overall, Doom knows that lifting Mjölnir is a feat that he’ll never be able to achieve normally.
There have been a few times Doom has managed to find a loophole to lift Mjölnir, such as the time Doctor Doom was trapped in Hell. It was here that Doom managed to get his hands on Mjölnir, and due to being in Hell, its enchantment was weakened enough for Doom to lift and wield it. Doom is one ofthe smartest characters in Marvel. It’s no surprise that he’d eventually be able to find a loophole or two, but overall, Doom knows that lifting Mjölnir is a feat that he’ll never be able to achieve normally.

Time and again, Doctor Doom has done the impossible. He regularly has fistfights with Mephisto for the soul of his mother. He has routinely outsmarted and manipulated the smartest man on the planet. Doctor Doom once wielded the power of God and reshaped the entire universe in his image. There are very few things that Victor Von Doom is not capable of. Still, the one thing that evenDoctor Doomhas to admit that he’ll never, ever, be able to do, is being worthy enough to liftThor’shammeron his own merit.
