In the film, Rotta, Jabba the Hutt’s son, gets kidnapped by the Separatists, and Anakin Skywalker and his brand-new Padawan, Ahsoka Tano, are sent on a mission to retrieve him.
Now, Rotta the Hutt willreturn inThe Mandalorian & Grogu, presumably stepping into his father’s role after the death of Jabba the Hutt inReturn of the Jedi. ThoughWhite will only be voicing the character, Rotta’s return has been met with some incredulity, prompting illustrator and designerBryan Wardto post a comical image of what Jeremy Allen White might have looked like inThe Mandalorian & Groguhad he been castas more than just a voice actor.
Of course, the image, which superimposes White’s face onto a Hutt body, is meant to be a joke, but it’s still exciting that such a high-profile actor will join theStar Warsgalaxy in this role. Does this mean the Hutts will have a larger presence in the New Republic in the future?
What Will Rotta The Hutt’s Role Be In The Mandalorian & Grogu?
Aside from a brief appearance inStar Wars: The Clone Warsseason 3, Rotta has been absent fromStar Warscanon, despite all the events involving the Hutts since his kidnapping as an infant. Throughout Jabba’s death, Bib Fortuna’s claim of Jabba’s palace, and later Boba Fett’s take-over of Tatooine inThe Book of Boba Fett, Rotta’s fate has remained a mystery. And yet, the Hutts do still wield some power in the galaxy.
Given the Hutts’ extended lifespan, Rotta will still be quite young in the New Republic era.
Though not much has been revealed aboutThe Mandalorian & Grogu’s plot,White’s casting suggests Rotta will have a bigger role to play. Perhaps Din Djarin and Grogu will need assistance from the Hutts in the fight against Grand Admiral Thrawn and the Imperial Remnant. How much help Rotta may be able to provide has yet to be determined – after all, given the Hutts’ extended lifespan, he’ll still be quite young in the New Republic era.Star Warsmust have something up its sleeve forThe Mandalorian & Grogu.
