The perfect replacement for audiences who loveFourth Wingand its romance can be found in this seven-year-old fantasy pirate book.Violet’s relationships inFourth Wing, both platonic and romantic, are some of the biggest draws of the series, as her many ties are tested and tried throughout the ongoing plot. This is especially true of Violet’s relationship with Xaden as their romance is made complicated by both their emotional limitations and the larger narrative’s events keeping them at a distance.

As a result, manyFourth Wingreplacement bookstry to channel that complexity, using the basis of the enemies-to-lovers storyline the book did before going off in unique directions. However, many audiences may want a dynamic that is a bit closer to this main couple in their cutting banter, ability to protect each other, and arc of learning to be vulnerable. One particular duology, fortunately, does feature a similar dynamic to Violet and Xaden, though the books do lack dragons and war colleges:Daughter Of The Pirate KingandDaughter Of The Siren Queenby Tricia Levenseller.

The Daughter Of The Pirate King’s Main Couple Has a Similar Dynamic To Violet & Xaden

Alosa & Riden’s Dynamic Mirror Violet & Xaden’s Arc Regarding Vulnerability

The main couple in theDaughter Of The Pirate Kingduology share a very similar dynamic to Violet and Xaden inFourth Wingas they must learn the importance of vulnerability and trust. Alosa meets Riden in the first book after she is captured by Riden’s crew, forcing her to abandon her own ship.Alosa, however, had planned this as the crew of The Night Farerare in possession of a piece of a map to a legendary treasure, one Alosa needs to get for her father and uses every asset, including her half-siren abilities, to procure.

They are both stubborn and capable fighters but also need to learn to rely on each other and be vulnerable, especially as new secrets rock their understanding of the world.

The dynamic between Alosa and Riden mirrors several beats ofViolet and Xaden’s story inThe Empyrean Series. They are both stubborn and capable fighters but also need to learn to rely on each other and be vulnerable, especially as new secrets rock their understanding of the world.A big example is Riden being the one to help Alosa gain control of her siren abilities, giving them a magical connection much like Violet and Xaden. Their arc from distrust to understanding, paired with the worldbuilding and plot, truly makes this duology a greatFourth Wingfollow-up.

Daughter Of The Pirate King’s Worldbuilding & Plot Make It A Great Fourth Wing Follow-Up

The Fast-Paced Plot Is Both Engaging And Easily Wrapped Up In Two Books

While the romance is the main reason,Daughter Of The Pirate King’s fast-paced plot and worldbuilding are also why this duology is a greatFourth Wingfollow-up.Though most of it is covered inDaughter Of The Siren Queen, the siren’s mindset and culture were well-thought-out, much like the dynamics between dragons and humans inThe Empyrean Series.Their logic seemed both alien and understandable, expanding the world and revealing new mysteries that the plot explored through Alosa and her journey to find both the treasure and the truth.

I Really Hope My Worst Suspicions About This Fourth Wing Character Are Wrong

I can’t shake the fact that one character is hiding something in Iron Flame, but I hope Rebecca Yarros’ next Fourth Wing sequel proves me wrong.

The plot also struck that same balance of anticipation and explanation that manybooks likeFourth Wingneed to have, both regarding the character arcs and the larger beats. The characters are given time to shine, but never at the cost of the narrative, keeping the pace easily as each new detail is discovered. This allowed it to not only stay engaging for audiences as the mystery unfolded but also conclude in a satisfying way at the end of the second book, making this a perfectFourth Wingfollow-up before and even after the third book’s arrival.
