Warning! This article contains spoilers for Venom: The Last Dance.
A rumor about the plot ofVenom: The Last Dancewould have resulted in a very different movie, and now that the movie has come out, it’s a tragedy that the rumors were false. Sony’s Spider-Man Universe has struggled since its inception to create movies that are universally enjoyed and praised. Frequently, criticism regarding weak stories, poorly designed and implemented characters, and a lack of actual development have made these films flops that tend to be easily forgettable.
However, thefinal outing for Tom Hardy’s Eddie Brockand his symbiotic companion had a chance to redeem the SSU. And, ahead of the film’s release, rumors were swirling from fans and speculators about ways that this final installment could reach its full potential. One such theory had promise, and some potential evidence when the trailers dropped, but ultimately,Venom: The Last Dancehas gone the way of all the SSU andfailed to tie it’s fractured and fragmented universe togetherin any meaningful way.

Venom 3 Was Rumored To Include Young Peter Parker
A short time before Venom 3’s release, the announcement of Rhys Ifans casting in the film led some viewers to speculate that their would be a connection to Andrew Garfield’sThe Amazing Spider-Man. While this initialrumor was quickly debunked byVenom: The Last Dance’sdirector, itled to further speculation about Ifans' characterand specifically the people he was seen with in the trailer. Along with Ifans, there is a young boy, who is approximately 10 years of age, seen in a vehicle with Ifans' character and Eddie Brock.
Venom: The Last Dance Ending Explained - Sony’s Spider-Man Universe Will Never Be The Same
An ending, but a terrifying new beginning beckons after Venom: The Last Stand, but what does it all mean?
Theboy was thought by some to be a younger version of Peter Parker, which would mean this version of the future hero met Venom at a young age, where the symbiote chose to protect him. This would vary from comic books, but theVenommovies have never sought to be comic accurate, with many changes to the story of Brock and Venom. With young Peter in the movie, speculation that the boy would have a pivotal part in the movie, and finally connect the SSU with its titular hero, who has yet to make any notable appearance in the films to date. However, this obviously didn’t happen.

Eddie Brock’s Scenes With Leaf Were Some Of Venom 3’s Strongest
Eddie Brock Is Shown To Be Paternal And Passionate
Despite the absence of Peter Parker from the film, the movie did feature theyoung boy in a prominent role. Rather than a pre-superpowers Peter, the boy is named Leaf, and his father, played by Rhys Ifans, has taken the family on a cross-country road trip to explore Area 51 before it’s shut down. Along their journey, they run into a struggling Eddie Brock, who has no shoes and no means of traveling on to his final destination, New York City. The family offers to take Eddie in, and allow him to travel along with them until they get to Las Vegas, which Eddie graciously accepts.
Leaf takes a shine to Eddie, and while his father is asleep, hetells Eddie about his fear of seeing an alien. This leads to Eddie speaking kindly to the boy, and trying to ease his fears, before Leaf falls to sleep on his arm, and Venom says that Eddie would have been a great dad. The road trip is short, but Eddie does run into Leaf and the family again, and it’s clear that he has a soft spot for the young man, which leads him to work hard to protect him. While somescenes inVenom 3were lacking in several ways, the scenes between Leaf and Eddie were full of beautiful emotional depth.

I Would’ve Loved To See Tom Hardy’s Venom Protect Young Peter Parker
Venomhas already made itself distinct from most other adaptations of the anti-hero in the movie’s approach to the character, but they never revealed a real interaction between Venom and Spidey. IfVenom: The Last Dancehad included a young Peter Parker, it would have opened up a greatopportunity to deliver one of the most unique and entertaining interactions between these two iconic charactersin any live-action setting. Unfortunately, the film avoided the crossover, and now that the trilogy has ended, it’s unlikely to ever happen with the current iterations of these characters.
24 Venom: The Last Dance Easter Eggs & Marvel References Explained
Venom: The Last Dance features all kinds of Easter eggs and Marvel references amid all the crazy symbiote mayhem and Knull the Symbiote God.
Tom Hardy’s Venom clearly wants to be a hero, and they choose to be the Lethal Protector, righting wrongs and taking down bad guys. While their methods are extreme, they effectively achieve their goals and get rid of bad guys. Had this version of the character appointed themselves as a protector for young Peter, it could have been a great way toinfluence and inspire the young hero before they ever developed their powers. And seeing how Peter reacts, either with horror, or in awe, could have been an interesting development for the SSU ahead of his official introduction.

If Tom Hardy Returns, I Hope To See A Venom Movie With Dylan Brock
Tom Hardy Could Still Have A Future As Eddie Brock
While Tom Hardy has seemingly retired from his role as Venom, the actor has spoken out about potentially returning under the right conditions, like a battle between his Venom and Tom Holland’s Spider-Man (viaIndependent). However, if he is open to returning for a story with Holland, he may also be inclined to revisit the character if the story were to have a meaningful shift forward, such as Eddie’s becoming a dad.Venom 3did a lot of groundwork insetting up Eddie’s potential future as a father. From Venom’s comments, to his connection with Leaf, and the comics provide the perfect backstory for this.
Dylan Brock is the son of Eddie Brock, Anne Weying, and Venom. Despite the couple being separated, the Venom symbiotebonded with the bodies of Eddie and Anne at different times, and this connection led to a new life form being born. Dylan is a symbiote/human hybrid, and he has a storyline that sees him face off against Knull, which seems to be a perfect fit forhow Tom Hardy’s Eddie Brock story could continue, and bring back Knull after his brief introduction inVenom: The Last Dance.
