Warning! This article contains spoilers about Superman & Lois season 4 and the finale.

Superman and Loisfinally delivered one of the coolest scenes the show set up from the start, and it was so worth the wait. As theDCUbegins their journey, the final piece of DC TV from the earlier era has just come to a close withSuperman & Lois’final season. The show had an incredible run for the past four years, with four seasons that saw Superman as a father to two teenage boys. Unlike most other adaptations, this version of Superman had his biggest priorities at home, and he juggled that with raising his sons.

However, there was always one thing from the start that I was desperately hoping for the show to do. Raising sons who have a half-Kryptonian heritage, there was the potential to explore how this impacted the young Kent boys. And, seeing them return to the very farm and town where Clark spent his formative years also added to thatfeeling that Jonathan and Jordan would have a similar journey to their super dad. But for the longest time, it seemed like this was never going to be fully realized in the show, and then the finale delivered so much more than I could ask for.

Jordan & Jonathan Show Their Tag-Team Superpowered Potential In A Fight Against Doomsday

The Super Family Fought Side By Side In The Series Finale

The final season ofSuperman & LoissawClark facing his greatest challengesyet. With the Bizarro Superman transforming into Doomsday, Clark battled a villain who was significantly more powerful than anything he faced before. This even led to Clark dying, and only being brought back thanks to the donation of his father-in-law’s heart upon his death. Meanwhile, Jonathan, who had previously never shown signs of having any powers like his father, finally powered up.

Did you like that DC broke an 85-year Superman rule in Superman & Lois' series finale?

Superman & Lois has ended, and in the DC series' final episode, Tyler Hoechlin’s Man of Steel died with no way of coming back to life. In over 85 years, this is the first time that a mainstream Superman story kills Clark Kent for good, as the show’s ending means Hoechlin is unlikely to play his version of Superman again. While it was sad to see him die, I liked the finality it gave Superman’s story, which I believe is better than an open ending for a version of the character that we will likely never see again.

Then, with all of these pieces in place,Superman teamed up with his powered-up sons, Jonathan and Jordan Kent, to fight against their most powerful rival of all-time. Doomsday was able to overwhelm Clark thanks to his reduced powers with an aging human heart, but against three super beings, the Kent family were able to stand their ground and get the upper hand. This team-up was spectacular to watch, and a moment that made the entire show even more worthwhile.

Superman & Lois' Finale Shows Jordan & Jonathan’s Futures As Superman’s Successors

Jonathan & Jordan Kent Become Supermen

Then, to provide a definitive ending and give closure to the story in its series finale,Superman & Loisdelivers one of the most beautiful and emotional endings of any superhero show, as it shows the future for theKent’s and life after Doomsday. Flying side by side with their father, in their own superhero suits, and in formation with Steel and Natalie Irons was just an iconic scene that I wish could have been expanded and gotten another spin-off show just to follow their new super team. And beyond that, theboys grew up to become heroesin their own right.

From the ending, it’s clear that both Jonathan and Jordan go on to continue their father’s legacy, but presumably, their superhero journey looked different to their dads with their identities being public. In this way, they could live authentically, be open and honest with their families and the world, and protect those in need. It’s a beautiful storybook ending that feels like the perfect way to close the book on the Kent family, andlook forward to that bright future filled with truth, hope, and justice, thanks to the Supermen.

The thing is, the show waited until the very end to make this a reality, and that feels right seeing the way they were able to wrap up the series. Early on,neither Jonathan nor Jordan even knew their father’s true identityas the Man of Steel. Then, when they learn his secret, it takes time before Jordan gets powers. And then, Jordan is kind of reckless, being immature and prideful with his powers, long before his brother ever develops powers of his own. When Jonathan finally did see his powers come in,Jordan was on the verge of retiring from his role as Superboy, because he felt pushed aside by how naturally harnessed powers came to Jonathan.

I Can’t Believe Superman & Lois Managed To Tie Up 10 Major Storylines In 20 Minutes

The Superman & Lois series finale was packed with major reveals and fitting endings for the show’s characters, but some were quite shocking.

For the longest time, it seemed like Jonathan just wouldn’t get powers, and maybe he could help by getting a Steel suit like John Henry Irons, but it was uncertain. Even the final season teased the trio teaming up, but they reserved it till the very end. Thankfully, that feels like the right call with how well the ending handled this team-up, and the vision of the future it provided for this incredible family inSuperman & Lois. The Kent’s made it through, and they were all heroes in the end.
