InOnce Human, players can use vastly different builds in order to increase their damage output or survivability in the hostile world of Nalcott, such as the Fortress Warfar Tank build. One of the main progressions of the game is crafting higher tiers of weapons and armor, as well as upgrading the blueprints that create them. Using blueprints for different gear sets gives players unique buffs to increase damage based on the weapon type they have chosen.

There are many different builds available, such asa Power Surge buildfor elemental damage or usingthe Falcon Set for Crit Damage. This build focuses on theFortress Warfare skill, which automatically places a device on the ground, granting increased damage while active. This build relies on carefully placed shotsusing a Sniper Riflefor maximum Weakspot damage. It is also a tanky build, allowing players tosurvive longerwithout consumables and even solo higher-level bosses and dungeons. Here is what you need to build the best Fortress Warfare Tank build.

Best Gear Loadout For A Fortress Warfare Tank Build

A Sniper Focused Build With Survivability

This build centers around using theAWS.338 Black Panther sniper rifle, which triggers Fortress Warfare after aiming downsight for three seconds. Activating Fortress Warfare while using the sniper to target weakspots deals massive damage to bosses, especially when paired with four pieces of theRenegade Armor Set, whichcan be obtained via the Wish Machine. The Renegade Set grants additional Weakspot DMG viaArcher’s Focus, increasing damage for every shot against the same enemy.

Renegade Set (4 pieces)

Lonewolf Set (1 piece)

Long Axe

Because sniper rifles are one of the slowest weapons to fire and reload, using the Renegade set and asingle piece of the Lonewolf setincreases magazine capacity and reload speed. Doing so allows you to stay shooting for longer, aiming down sights to continuously pack on damage without stopping to reload. When you do reload, aiming for three seconds triggers Fortress Warfare again, starting the cycle over.

This build requires accuracy when firing to ensure you are hitting the weakspots of enemies and bosses. There isvery low damage outputif these shots are missed, resulting in a difficult time with some bosses. Be sure to learn the weakspots of bosses you’ll be encountering to make sure you’re getting optimal damage output.

The survivability of this build primarily comes from the unique feature of theLeather Boots, whichrestores your health while in Fortress Warfare. The doubling effect at low health can be a lifesaver, especially if paired with foods thatincrease the rate of HP recovery, ensuring your health is always topped off. These boots are pivotal for those attemptingsolo Monolith Bosses or Silo runs.

Additionally, your secondary and melee weapons also help you get out of tight situations where smaller enemies catch up to you. TheS870 - Sandstorm shotgunallows you to instantly pop Fortress Warfare when switching to it, and allows for rapid disposal of nearby enemies, especially when hitting weakspots. If you have the extra Starchrom or get a lucky pull from the Wish Machine, you can upgrade this to theDB12 - Raining Cash legendary shotgunfor some extra power, but it is not necessary.

If you’re really in a pinch, theLong Axe’s heavy attack executes an AOEthat knocks down smaller deviants and humanoid enemies, allowing you to quickly follow up with finishing blows.

You do not have to swap to your melee weapon to use it. Instead, try to get comfortable using theMelee Quick Attack button(V by default), which allows you to instantly use your Melee weapon to execute a regular attack (tap) or a heavy attack (hold). This will save you a lot of time swapping weapons, and allowing you to quickly defeat nearby enemies and resume shooting nearly instantly.

Final Territory

The best weapon mod to use for your sniper rifle in this build is theDurable Territorymod. This allows you toextend the effect of Fortress Warfare for every enemy killed, which can be excellent for clearing Silos or Monoliths that spawn additional enemies. However, if you are going up against a boss that does not spawn many extra enemies, you may instead want to swap weapon mods for the alternate mod,Final Territory. This grantsadditional damage and movement speedonce Fortress Warfare ends, allowing you to be more mobile while increasing damage output.

The best armor mod for this build is theLight Cannonmod, which removes your super armor while adding additional damage. This mod is one of the main reasons the Leather Boots are so important to the build, as you areincreasing damage at the cost of your defense. However, the damage increase is significant and affects all of your weapons.

Two other mods that are useful for this build are thePrecise Strike and Weakspot DMG Boostmods. These both primarily increase your weakspot damage, increasing your damage output. Situationally, theRuthless Reapermay also be extremely effective, especially if going up against bosses or Silos with many smaller enemies. The legendary version of this modrefills 100% of your magazine after two kills, allowing you to constantly eliminate smaller enemies without ever reloading.

Best Mod Attribute Effects

Mod attribute effects are randomized, resulting in different qualities and effects depending on what you roll for the mod. Because of this, you may not always have a “perfect” mod, but here are the most important effects to look out for:

Max HP

Depending on what you are fighting, you may want to lean more towards specialty damage, such asDMG Against Great Ones, or DMG Against Normal Enemies. There are also several defensive effects, such asWeapon DMG Reduction or Head DMG Reductionfor going up against Rosetta Soldiers or PvP. Feel free to choose more one way or the other depending on your experience.

Best for Defense

Festering Gel

Forms a fortification when thrown, healing the player and allies when nearby.

Best for General DMG

Lonewolf’s Whisper

Attacks enemies with high damage, spawning a clone when an enemy dies.

While some may think it is basic, theButterfly’s Emissaryis excellent for this build due to its ability tohighlight weakspots on enemies and deal damage. While fighting large bosses, the Butterfly’s Emissary has no problem being blocked by terrain or reaching bosses at greater heights, and deals a decent amount of damage while highlighting locations for you to shoot. This is especially useful whenfighting a boss for the first timeto familiarize yourself with its weakspots.

TheFestering Gelis an excellent deviation for harder dungeons as it assists you byproviding cover and healing for both HP and Sanity. It is best used in fights where bullets are flying, so you can duck in cover while firing. It can also be used as an emergency health source if things get dangerous.

TheLonewolf’s Whisper(Canine Skull) is best used when outright damage is needed, especially if taking on multiple smaller enemies. Once summoned, it will either focus heavy damage on your primary target or take out enemies closest to you.Once it dispatches smaller enemies, it will create a clone of itself, allowing you to be protected from being overwhelmed by smaller enemies. This deviation is fantastic forPvE explorationas it can quickly clear an area for you to explore and loot gear and weapon crates.

Final Tips & Tricks For Fortress Warfare

Small Things To Help Optimize Your Playstyle

This build relies heavily onprecise aiming and careful evasion, dodging at just the right times to avoid hits while quickly recovering to defeat enemies. The Leather Boots, Shotgun, and Long Axeare excellent ways to keep up survivability if things get scary, but positioning and awareness are very important. Clearing settlements in the overworld is quick work when finding safe areas to snipe enemies, resulting in very little engagement or effort.

When using a test dummy, the base DPS for this build is140,000 DMG per second. This increases further when stacking an active Fortress Warfare, Archer’s Focus, and Brutal Mayhem, with total DPS outputs entering the200,000 DPS range.

Using items such asThe Weaver whim potionscan help you survive swarms of enemies by dropping a web trap when rolling. This will catch enemies and allow you to turn and dispatch them with plenty of time. This is especially useful in Monolith Boss battles, such asArachsiam, who spawns dozens of small spiderlings that can easily overwhelm you otherwise.

InOnce Human, there is a vast number of builds players can use to play the game, allowing variability in preferences and requirements depending on the situation. Feel free to experiment and consider using different builds each season, as certain skills such as Fast Gunner or Unstable Bomber may have special perks depending on the season. Try challenging yourself to try something new each season.
