Scores of bosses will stand between The Destined One and Sun Wukong’s path of reincarnation inBlack Myth: Wukong. Each of the game’s chapters culminates in a fight against a chief, with several optional bosses lurking off the beaten trail. One such enemy is a wolf guai named Guangzhi, who stands guard inChapter One’s Forest of Wolves location. Defeating Guangzhi is not a main story requirement, but there are several reasons to consider taking on this Yougai Chief early.
Apart from testing the monkey’s mettle against a powerful foe early on, Guangzhi offers a chance to acquire two unique items that will make future boss encounters easier: theRed Tides Transformation Spelland the game’s preliminary Vessel,Fireproof Mantle. Defeating Guangzhi before taking on the fieryBlack Bear Guaiat the end of Chapter One will increase your chances of moving to the next area, Yellow Sand Ridge.

Spend Sparks On Upgrades Before Heading To The Forest Of Wolves
Whether fighting Guangzhi early or returning later, prepare to dodge. There are several evasive moves you canacquire within the Stamina skill tree. First, unlock Deft Evasion with the Sparks you acquire from leveling up in Chapter One. Stamina skills are housed in the Foundation attributes menu. There, you’ll find Deft Evasion, which boosts dodge agility. If the Destined One has the resources, there are more stamina skills that enhance the perfect dodge ability, likeBold Move, Ephemeral Shadow, and Vengeful Mirage. Focus on dodge upgrades to help you avoid Guanghzi’s brutal melee combos.
After defeating the Bull Guard, andlearning the Immobilize spell, the Destined One enters the areaOutside The Forest. To find Guangzhi, explore the stream area to locate the path to the wolf chief’s domain, found through an archway across a short bridge. It’s worth investigating and fighting enemies along the way tocollect materialsfor shrine purchases. Apart from dodging, the simian canallocate resources to upgrade Health and Mana. Immobilize is a dependable spell that freezes enemies in place, leaving them open to monkey onslaught. Upgrading Mana willdecrease the cost of spell use to cast Immobilize.

Fighting Wolf Guai Guangzhi
Dodge, Dodge, Dodge, And Dodge Again
The first thing you’ll notice about Guangzhi isthe wolf’s flaming spear. The boss won’t waste time in confronting the Destined One, charging forward with a spinning slash combo. Dodge the initial attack and land a quick combo of your own. Then back up and prepare for a ranged attack, as the fire spear is thrown in your direction. The wolf executes the throwas an evasive maneuver. If timed correctly, the throw can be dodged. As damage is dealt to Guangzhi, the wolf’s attacks evolve.
The boss’s heavy attack is a somersault combo that is slow and easy to dodge, but difficult to counter when the combo is finished. Additionally, when a large distance is created between the monkey and the wolf, the boss charges up to performslashing lunge attacks to close the gap. These attacks can come from an aerial position, too. If the monkey takes consecutive hits, they catch fire. Dodge until theflames are extinguished. Look to counter the spinning combo with a heavy focus attack, then cast the Immobilize spell to deal free damage to a defenseless Guangzhi.

Black Myth: Wukongutilizes an attack-cancelling mechanic. If caught striking during one of Guangzhi’s combos, cancel the attack by dodging to avoid taking damage.
Claim The Red Tides Transformation Spell
Wield Guangzhi’s Power Against Enemies Along Sun Wukong’s Path
When taking on Guangzhi, it’s likely the Destined One will only have a select few number of tools in their arsenal. Trust that the wolf guai is beatable with the available resources. Remember to dodge and cast Immobilize whenever the spell is charged. Or spend Will at shrines on medicaments to limit the chief’s damage output.
After slaying Guangzhi, collect your rewards, most notably, the Red Tides transformation spell. Transformations are powerful spells that allow the monkey to, well, transform into the spirits of defeated chiefs and briefly utilize their abilitieswithout taking base damage. Also, it’s now possible to complete the game’s first Vessel Quest to acquire the Fire Mantle. This is another optional but worthwhile endeavorbefore facing Black Bear Guai. Continue the search for Lost Relics and be on the lookout for more optional bosses inBlack Myth: Wukong.
