Summary
Hogwarts Legacyincludes a few villains, but the primary antagonist is Isidora. The fifth-year student that the character plays as won’t know the details of Isidora’s doings until well into the trials presented by the former headmaster and professors who knew about Ancient Magic. When compared to other antagonists, Isidora is unique in a few ways. However, when looking at how evil each villain is, it might be hard to decide where to place her, considering her goals and actions have a bit more nuance compared to the dark wizards that usually fill the role of antagonist.
Hogwarts Legacytakes place in the past, and Isidora lived long before the period in which the game is set. Which means that the wizards who would become known as some of the greatest – and therefore most fearsome – dark wizards in the future wouldn’t be born for hundreds of years after Isidora’s death. However, if they knew about her and her actions, their power and goals could’ve become even more terrifying. But considering she wasn’t exactly a dark wizard, using Ancient Magic instead, it seems like she might not be as evil as other villains in the series.

Isidora Isn’t That Evil Compared To Other Harry Potter Antagonists
Unlike manyHarry Potterfranchise villains, Isidora doesn’t seek to make herself the ruler of the wizarding world. She’s also not trying to cheat death, holding no belief that only muggles should be affected by mortality. Instead,Isidora genuinely wants to help others, and her ability to manipulateHogwarts Legacy’s Ancient Magicgives her unique methods that are capable of solving problems that wouldn’t normally be solved with magic. Considering her motivations, Isidora isn’t all that evil, despite her status as the villain ofHogwarts Legacy. This becomes even more obvious when she’s compared to villains like Grindelwald and Voldemort.
Hogwarts Legacy: Pros And Cons Of Choosing The Dark Wizard Path
The Unforgivable Curses can certainly be a tempting venture, but do the risks of using dark magic in Hogwarts Legacy outweigh the rewards?
The problem was that the effects of Isidora’s good intentions had consequences even after her death, becauseshe stored the pain she removed from others in repositories. Additionally, she grew more powerful as she took away pain from students, discovering that the emotions taken away could be used to enhance one’s own abilities. Although she took away emotional pain from others, it wasn’t a good deed, considering the repositories turned into dangerous weapons in the wrong hands, and using her spell on somebody too many times made them into a husk of a person.

Grindelwald Is More Evil Than Isidora
He Seeks Power & Leads A Revolution
Unlike Isidora, Grindelwald didn’t have the power to wield Ancient Magic. He also had higher ambitions, and he attended Durmstrang rather than Hogwarts. These circumstances created an opportunity for Grindelwald to learn the Dark Arts, since he was more encouraged to do so at Durmstrang than students at Hogwarts were, which would lead tohis expulsion from the school later for performing Dark Arts experiments of an unspecified nature. Since Durmstrang was accepting towards students learning the Dark Arts, Grindelwald’s expulsion means his experiments must’ve been horrifying. Naturally, this wasn’t enough to dampen his ambitions, and that’s partially due to his abilities as a Seer.
Hogwarts Legacy 2 Is The Perfect Place To Explore One Of The Wizarding World’s Most Magical Events
There is one important and magical event in Harry Potter lore that would make for the absolute perfect setting for a Hogwarts Legacy sequel.
As a Seer, one of Grindelwald’s visions in his youth showed him rising to dominance in the wizarding world. He became obsessed with this vision, andhe started working towards a revolution that would overturn the International Statute of Wizarding Secrecy, which keeps the wizarding world and muggle world separate. Once he learned about the Deathly Hallows, he believed that they were crucial for his goals and worked to track them down. He’d find an ally in these goals in Dumbledore, but their individual reasoning for why they wanted the statute overturned was wildly different, as Dumbledore wanted to stop Obscurials from being created after what happened to his sister.

Considering Grindelwald was expelled from a power-oriented school for experiments that must’ve been too extreme even for them, his intentions for ending the International Statute of Wizarding Secrecy weren’t for unity, as was more the case for Dumbledore. This is shown later in his life when Grindelwald started his revolution in earnest, committing mass murders that even alerted mugglesto the danger of his existence. Grindelwald declares war, which would coincide with the Second World War, and later is stopped and imprisoned after a duel with Dumbledore. Yet, he isn’t as evil as Voldemort, and could be considered the product of a power-hungry school and his own visions.
Lord Voldemort Is Still The Most Evil Harry Potter Villain
He Caused Death Often For No Reason
Voldemort started not one, but two Wizarding Wars that both resulted in a lot of casualties, with Voldemort killing any wizards he came across who opposed him. But even before he knew he was a wizard,Voldemort showed concerning habits that revealed his callous personalityand disregard for the lives of others, especially when it came to muggles. When he learned that he was a wizard, he thought that his mother should’ve been able to avoid death by having magic abilities. Then, discovering that his dad was a muggle made him want to avoid using the name Tom Riddle, which later led to him creating the name Lord Voldemort.
In the series' second novel,Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, it’s revealed that Riddle’s full name, Tom Marvolo Riddle, is an anagram of the phrase “I am Lord Voldemort.”

Can You Become An Animagus In Hogwarts Legacy?
Learning to become an Animagus in Hogwarts Legacy and transforming into an animal would certainly be impressive. But is it even possible?
Voldemort then started an obsession with immortality, creating Horcruxes to make himself immortal. He also showed an obsession with power, but never revealed the ability to feel remorse for his crimes or the deaths he caused through liberaluse of the Unforgivable Curses, which even Grindelwald showed in his later years. In theHarry Potteruniverse,Voldemort is widely considered by the wizarding population to be the most evil wizard in hundreds of years, especially when he doesn’t show goals beyond domination or any regard for life, killing countless wizards and making them help him as Inferi.

The universe ofHarry Potterincludes a variety of villains with their own ambitions and goals. However, not all of those goals are necessarily good or for the purpose of the greater good, such as Isidora’s desire to remove pain through Ancient Magic, so nobody would suffer, or Grindelwald wanting to end wizards having to remain hidden from muggles, even if Grindelwald didn’t show remorse until later and sought domination. When compared to characters like Voldemort, Isidora is far from an evil villain, and she didn’t mean to cause issues with her power inHogwarts Legacy.
