While there are plenty of mutants who could be defined as strong or invincible with Omega-level abilities, Marvel’sAliencrossover is putting its heroes to the ultimate test against the deadly Xenomorphs and other sinister villains.
Aliens vs. Avengers#3 by Jonathan Hickman and Esad Ribić seesthe remaining Avengers led by Captain Marvelarriving on Mars after they’re forced to abandon Earth. Though Mars had become home to mutants when the Xenomorphs first invaded Earth, there are only four mutant heroes still standing when the Avengers arrive.
Emma Frost, Wolverine, Armor, and Manifold are revealed as the only surviving mutants, who save Carol Danvers from an attack by both Mister Sinister and Xenomorphs that ultimately kills Tony Stark. Though this battle confirms these heroes’ true invulnerability, it also surprisingly kills off some serious heavy-hitters.

The crossover between the iconic sci-fi horrorAlienfranchise and Marvel’s universe of superheroes has already proven to be deadly for some of the publisher’s most famous characters, butit’s truly shocking that these are the only four mutants remaining during the Xenomorph invasion.Mister Sinister is also still around, siding with the alien creatures, but every other mutant that moved to Mars has officially been wiped out in theAliens vs. Avengerstimeline. The series’ first issue stated that all but one mutant made the planetary move, with Apocalypse staying on Earth to fight. His survival is still unconfirmed.

Colossus wasn’t strong enough against the Xenomorphs, but two other armored heroes have found themselves able to withstand the alien hordes: Emma Frost with her diamond skin form and Armor using her mutant-powered exoskeleton. Along with Wolverine, who may have Marvel’s most iconic healing factor, the three of them apparently can’t be harmed by the creatures. Manifold is another perfect addition to this invulnerable group, because even though he can technically be hurt if attacked, Eden is able to use his unique abilities to communicate with the universe and avoid being in harm’s way.

But Are There Any More Mutants Remaining?
The end ofAliens vs Avengers#3 teases that there could be one more mutant coming back into the mix, with the Wakandan ship carryingBlack Panther and his sonmaking an appearance. T’Challa’s son is named Azari here, and he was shown in the first issue to be using some kind of lightning powers, so it’s likely that Azari is the son of Storm and could be the fifth mutant to survive the invasion. However, with Ororo and the other powerhouses of the X-Men seemingly defeated,the remaining mutants still face an uphill battle, especially once the Engineers enter the equation.
In thisAlien-infused universe, only a few X-Men are truly equipped to handle the intergalactic horrors.
The creepy scenes with Mister Sinister show various mutants, like Colossus, strung up and nested on the walls of the Xenomorph’s hive. In theAlienmovies, people have been rescued from this cocoon-like state before, so it’s not impossible for some supposedly-dead heroes to make a comeback - eventually. However, a comeback would require rescue from those who have actually stayed untouchable during the invasion, and it looks like an older Logan, Emma Frost, Armor, and Manifold are officially confirmed as the best survivalists. In thisAlien-infused universe, only a fewX-Menare truly equipped to handle the intergalactic horrors.
