A substantial DLC may be coming toHogwarts Legacysoon, andit definitely needs to avoid being about Quidditch. The 2023 RPG based on theHarry Potterseries captivated fans with its dedicated attention to detail in both the story and the game environment, as players took their own place at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Despite a successful launch and continued interest, there has been no confirmed announcement of DLC for the game.

The AAA titled by Avalanche Software confirmed very early on thatit would not be including Quidditch at releaseand, at this point, it may be better offnot including Quidditch in the gameat all. With the middling success ofHarry Potter: Quidditch Champions, any DLC would be better served focusing on fleshing out other original charactersor exploring a previously less seen corner of Hogwarts and Hogsmeade.

Quidditch Was Omitted From Hogwarts Legacy

The Quidditch Field Should Be Permanently Closed

One of the biggest gaps inHogwarts Legacyupon release was the lack of Quidditch, the iconic broomstick sport from theHarry Potterseries. The inclusion of broomsticks only made the absence of Quidditch even more obvious to fans who desperately wanted to play, with the empty quidditch field a monument to its loss. The logistics of Quidditch were too difficult forHogwarts Legacyto include at launch, mostly because of the nature of the fictional game.

10 Hogwarts Legacy Mistakes New Players Can Avoid

Players are faced with plenty of dangerous enemies in the wizarding world, but the biggest Hogwarts Legacy mistakes actually pose the greatest threat.

Quidditch isn’t actually that fun of a game to play. While depictions of the sport are captivating in theHarry Pottermovies or books, that’s mostly due to the fact thatthe audience is following Harry Potter in his role as Seeker. This position mostly ignores the game and focuses solely on capturing an evasive ball called the Snitch, which grants enough points to usually win the game. In fact, the game cannot end until the Snitch is caught, which makes the Seeker even more important.

Therumored DLC forHogwarts Legacywouldneed to make players the Seeker, which entails chasing an erratic objective around a limited map. That doesn’t sound very fun with the broomstick controls ofHogwarts Legacy,so the other choice is for players to be any other role like Chaser or Keeper. Unfortunately, that means thatplayers would be stuck waiting for the NPC Seekeron either team to catch the Snitch, which usually decides the winner.

Any addition of Quidditch would have interrupted the flow of the game’s story, which already needs players to dedicate time to practicing dueling, decorating their Room of Requirement, and running around the castle to attend classes.

Admittedly, Quidditch wouldn’t have added much to the storyofHogwarts Legacyanyway. Despite making thrilling appearances in the books and movies (at least when Harry isn’t too injured to play, which is most of the time),Quidditch is actually canonically only played a few times throughout the school year. Any addition of Quidditch would have interrupted the flow of the game’s story, which already needs players to dedicate time to practicing dueling, decorating their Room of Requirement, and running around the castle to attend classes.

Quidditch Champions Didn’t Wow Fans

Lack Of Interest In Quidditch Spans Multiple Games

AnyHarry Potterfan who was still champing at the bit to chase Snitches and avoid Bludgers could simply turn toQuidditch Champions. Unfortunately, that game has had a lukewarm receptionwith fans after theinitial release’s good reviews. According to Steam Charts,Harry Potter: Quidditch Championspeaked at 3,977 players on release and hasslowly plateaued down to 200 to 300 daily players. Despite pleading for a solid Quidditch game, fans don’t have much continued interest in actually playing it.

Since Quidditch as a standalone game has failed to capture a solid audience in its own dedicated game, there’s no reason to believe theHogwarts LegacyDLC would fare any better with Quidditch. Any DLC forHogwarts Legacyis better off focusing on different parts of the wizarding world.
