A new image has been released fromHighest 2 Lowest, unveiling Denzel Washington in the upcoming Spike Lee movie. Lee’s crime thriller serves as aremake of Akira Kurosawa’sHigh and Low(1963), which tells the story of a shoe company executive who becomes the victim of an extortion scheme after his driver’s son is mistakenly kidnapped. Washington will seemingly be playing the lead in the film, with a supporting cast that includes A$AP Rocky, Jeffrey Wright, Dean Winters, Ilfenesh Hadera, Ice Spice, and Michael Potts.

Cannes Film Festival chief Thierry Fremaux also teased what is to come from Lee’s take onHigh and Low, confirming that it will take place in New York City with Washington playing the character previously played in the original by actor Toshirô Mifune:

Tokyo has become New York, the 1960s the present day, and Denzel Washington takes on the role of Toshirō Mifune in his own way. It is also a great film about family.”
