Spoilers for Wonder Woman #18!Whether through pure coincidence or as a response to already established characters,Marvel and DC Comics have a slew of similar heroes and villains that borrow from one anotherregarding their visual designs, motivations, and overall purpose as characters. InWonder Woman’s corner of the DC Universe, a doppelgänger ofCaptain Americaexists who gives Marvel’s First Avenger a bad name, with the latest iteration of this character recently making his debut on the page.
Introduced in 1991’sJustice League International #46as a parody of Captain America,General Glory is an overly patriotic herowho rambles on about freedom and the glory of Americaalmost as much as he uses his superior strength and durability to thwart evil, with the character being a joke more than anything.
In the latest issue ofWonder Woman, Diana marches to the White House to take down the secret King of America, withthe third iteration of General Glory being just another annoying obstaclein her way. Suffice it to say, General Glory never stood a chance.

Taking her retribution for the death of Steve Trevor to the steps of the Capitol, Wonder Woman fights through wave after wave of military enemies sent against her by The Sovereign, with the second-to-last line of defense before Darkseid’s daughter, Grail, enters the fray beinga new as-of-yet identified General Glory. Introducing himself by hitting Diana across the back with an American flag,General Glory acts as a government stooge in this issue, talking about how he won’t have “so much trouble with a girl in a tiara”and showing how differently he carries himself compared to Marvel’s Captain America.

Diana of Themyscira is no more as she abandons the Wonder Woman moniker and look, taking on a new title and form to become DC’s greatest killer.
Similar to Peacemakerin that General Glory will do almost anything to protect freedom and peace (aside from committing murder), this “third of his name” General Glory is a disgrace not only to the character’s name but to the flag he uses to wack Diana with too. Technically having the same love for his country as Captain America, it’s the waythisGeneral Glory decides to act on that love — by attacking Wonder Woman and serving a supervillain, no less — that sets him apart, ensuring thatif Cap ever officially met General Glory, things wouldn’t end well for the latter.

General Glory Probably Won’t Be Returning in DC Comics Anytime Soon
Considering Wonder Woman one-shotted General Glory within mere moments of his triumphant return, it’s safe to say that he won’t be making another appearance on the page anytime soon (or at least while Wonder Woman is still around), showing that,for as blindly patriotic as General Glory is, nothing can save him from the wrath of a woman ready for war.Captain Americais, by far, the better hero when comparing the two, but that doesn’t mean thisWonder Woman-tangential character can’t be revamped infuture DC Comics stories, maybe this time with someone slightly more memorable behind the mask.
