Max’s uproarious seriesHackshas become one of TV’s most celebrated hits, but will the comedy about comedy get renewed for season 5 soon? Arriving in 2021, the program is a biting look at showbusiness and follows aging stand-up comedian Deborah Vance (Jean Smart), who hires canceled comedy writer Ava Daniels (Hannah Einbinder) to help reinvent her act. Though the series started with that simple premise, it quickly grew into a hilarious and heartfelt exploration of the two women, their ambitions, and their toxic relationship that neither can stay away from for too long.

Having snagged a slew of awards across its first three seasons, season 4 catches up with Deborah and Ava as the former beginsher career as a late-night TV host. Becoming something of the tyrant she once was, Deborah pushes Ava to the side, inspiring the younger writer to blackmail her former mentor. With a lot more at stake in season 4, it sets the stage for an explosive fifth outing where the two could finally go their separate ways. However, Max has yet to renewHacksfor season 5, though it seems like a foregone conclusion at this point.

Statsky:I think keeping the relationship fresh and making sure there are new places for Deborah and Ava to go, that is the beating heart of the show. If we found a way [to do more] that made sense, then maybe, yeah. But right now, that is still the plan.

Aniello:I think as we get closer to it, we’re like, ‘Yeah, maybe not, but I’m scared and sad.’ But I do think five has always been the plan and as of this moment it doesn’t exactly feel like it’s changing. But we’re also scared and sad. So, you never know.
