AGrand Theft Auto 6fan has spawned a bizarre debate over the realism of characters constantly respawning at hospitals in theGTAfranchise. It’s a pretty ubiquitous trope in the series by now: respawning is handled somewhat immersively, and the respawn location is affected by the player’s location and the manner in which they caused a game over. If they’re arrested by the police, they walk out of the nearest police station; if they die, they walk out of the nearest hospital.
But, as Reddit userdeep_fried_cheesepoints out, some injuries are just too much to walk away from. They argue thatconstantly respawning at hospitals is actually bad for immersion inGTA- if the player falls out of a helicopter 2,000 feet in the air, are they really expected to believe there’s anything a hospital could do for them?

The original poster does have a point -GTA’s respawning mechanics maybe aren’t as 100% accurate to real life as they could be. Buttheir nitpicking has provoked some gentle teasing from the community, along with a bigger debateabout what theGrand Theft Autoseries is trying to achieve with this long-running trope.
Fan Thinks Respawning At Hospitals In GTA 6 Should Be A Thing Of The Past
“A More Realistic Approach”
The original post by deep_fried_cheese goes on to argue thatGTA 6would be better offwithout hospital respawns. They admit that they preferRed Dead Redemption 2’s approach to respawning:whenever Arthur dies, the game loads back in at a nearby scenic location, and the player is free to take in the view for a few moments before moving on.
Rockstar’s Red Dead Announcement May Be Bad News For GTA 6’s Next Trailer
Grand Theft Auto 6 fans who are still waiting on a new trailer may be waiting a little longer thanks to the Red Dead Redemption PC port.
ButGTAplayers are used to respawning at hospitals. It’s been part of the series since it went 3D,and it’s become such a staple that many would miss itif it were removed from the next game. This entrenchment led many players to joke about the original poster’s apparent obsession with realism, with one claiming that death should give players an opportunity to reconsider their actions.

Others suggested, perhaps half-jokingly, that some locations might be too far from a hospital for it to make sense when the player respawns there, or that Rockstar should take things a step further and consider adding permadeath to the nextGTA.It mostly comes down to a matter of preference: some players would rather maintain the classic feel of respawning at hospitals, and others would rather something a little more creative.
Our Take: Does The Respawn Location Affect Overall Gameplay?
Hospital Respawning Has Its Pros & Cons
I don’t think anyone would try to argue thatGTAgames aren’t immersive, or that they haven’t been getting increasingly so in recent years. Even so, they’ve never gone for 100% immersion -there’s always been a layer of the surreal toGTA. It’s never been a real life simulator, but a satire of reality. There’s an inherent absurdity to waking up perfectly fine (but a few thousand dollars poorer) after you should’ve died, and that’s not just the point of hospital respawns - it’s part of what makesGTAgreat.
GTA 6’s Story Could Be Setting Up Rockstar’s Most Emotional Moment Yet
Betrayal is such a major theme throughout Rockstar Studio’s games, Grand Theft Auto 6’s treachery storyline has an opportunity to top all the rest.
Honestly, the worst thing you may say about hospital respawns inGTAis that they’re a little repetitive, and more than a little frustratingat this point. It’d be nice to seeGTA 6do something a little different, if only to break up the monotony of it all. And every player has died repeatedly during, say,a tough jump inGTA 5, only to respawn at a hospital miles away, then had to spend several minutes driving back each time.

If nothing else, there might actually be more backlash to changing the hospital respawnsthan there would be ifGTA 6kept them. Again, this is an iconic feature in the series by now, and people have come to expect it. It might not provoke as much upset as, say, removing cheat codes entirely, but a segment of the player base would inevitably be miffed by its removal. The inclusion of hospital respawns is arguably more realistic, in its own way, and might be an important a component in some players' immersion. It’s unlikely to be removed any time soon, least of all inGrand Theft Auto 6.
